The opportunity

Reporting to the Director Information Literacy, you will lead the Librarys engagement with assigned academic subject areas. Within this subject area you will: act as the librarys contact and connect constituents with other library experts; represent the library in the development of programs, courses, and other learning experiences; act as an information literacy subject matter expert; advocate for the promoting of information literacy principles and library content into courses; develop resources that teach information literacy, research, and library resource use skills including the creation, assessment, and maintenance of content in research guides, videos, interactives, and other media; and coordination with others to make that material available to learners.

What you’ll do:

  • Collaborate with academic units across the University based on an assigned academic subject area, develop expertise in the disciplines and associated resources of the assigned area.
  • Develop, assess, and maintain of modules, learning objects, videos, and tutorials to teach information literacy within assigned subject area.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in information literacy as an integrated member of product and program development, existing program improvement, and other projects.
  • Work with other members of the Content Creation and Research Support team to apply a consistent pedagogical approach for information literacy content.
  • Develop credentials such as non-credit bearing badges within assigned subject area as part of the information literacy strategy.
  • Identify opportunities to improve resources based on feedback, data, and other information from partners; ensure escalation of high-priority, time sensitive, or important feedback to appropriate partners within assigned subject area.
  • Provide research support to learners for escalated questions.
  • Participate in Library, University, and external professional committees.

What we’re looking for:

  • Masters degree in library science or a related field
  • 3 years of experience in an academic library or learning resource and support team
  • Experience designing learning objects.
  • Experience with video and image software such as Camtasia and Canva.

Position Purpose

As a direct report of the Senior Director, Learning and Development (L&D), the Director, Learning Technology (DLT) strategically leads, evaluates, and manages the organization’s learning technologies, ensuring they align with organization goals and enhance learning outcomes. The DLT leads the assessment of current systems and tools, explores new technologies and maintains platform efficiency. Additionally, the Director is responsible for collaborating with the IT team to develop and deliver Salesforce training programs, enhancing proficiency and leveraging the platform’s capabilities to meet organizational objectives.

Location: United States (100% Remote)

Travel: Approximately 20-30%

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Learning Technology Leadership, Management and Maintenance:

  • Leads the ongoing maintenance, troubleshooting, and user support for the LMS and intranet to ensure they are running smoothly and efficiently.
  • Partners with agencies across the Federation of Big Brothers Big Sisters Agencies and BBBSA, serving as an SME and thought partner in leveraging technology for learning.
  • Ensures the LMS and intranet are updated with the latest features and security measures, maintaining compliance with industry standards and organizational policies.

Change Management and Content Strategy:

  • Serves as primary lead across change management initiatives when implementing new technologies or making significant updates to existing platforms.
  • Develops and manages content strategy for learning platforms, ensuring materials are relevant, engaging, and aligned with the strategic direction of BBBSA.

Strategic Analysis and System Evaluation:

  • Analyzes current learning technologies, including the LMS and intranet, to evaluate their effectiveness and alignment with organizational goals; presents recommendations and leads implementation, if any.
  • Conducts user research to gather feedback on usability, effectiveness, accessibility, and satisfaction with current learning platforms.
  • Explores and evaluates potential new learning technologies or platforms for migration to ensure they meet future learning and collaboration needs.

Development and Training:

  • Works closely with the IT team to develop and deliver comprehensive technology training (primarily Salesforce) programs (including launching and overseeing a peer training program), to enhance employee skills and proficiency.
  • Designs and implements engaging and effective learning experiences, utilizing innovative learning design principles.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with IT, HR, and other departments to ensure the learning technologies are integrated seamlessly with other enterprise systems.
  • Engage with stakeholders across the organization to identify learning needs, gather feedback, and align technology solutions with business objectives.

Data-Driven Decision Making:

  • Utilize data analytics to assess the effectiveness of learning programs and technologies, making informed decisions to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Provide regular reports on system usage, user satisfaction, and learning impact to inform strategic planning and continuous improvement efforts.

Education & Related Work Experience

Education Level: Master’s degree in Education Technology, Information Technology, Computer Science, Educational/Instructional Design, or a related field including certification or experience equivalency

Years of Related Work Experience: Minimum 5-7 years experience in managing and preferably rolling out new LMS and intranet platforms, ideally in a mid to large-sized organization.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Leadership: Ability to establish a clear vision across learning technologies, strong decision-making skills, excellent communication, problem-solving ability, human centricity, adaptability, and a commitment to integrity and ethical leadership.
