Requirements

The role:

At Tyk, were obsessed with building software that solves problems. We count on our Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) to empower users with a rich feature set, high availability, and stellar performance level to pursue their missions.

Our customer base is growing, so were seeking an experienced SRE to optimise, automate, and improve our performance, using insights from massive-scale data in real time. We want an original thinker, a challenger, a technical legend, an opinionated collaborator who wants to make things better.

Heres what youll be getting up to:

  • Proactive Monitoring: Ensure our production Cloud environment operates within defined SLAs through vigilant monitoring and proactive issue resolution.
  • Alerting and Monitoring: Collaborate with Senior SRE to identify opportunities for building proactive alerting and monitoring systems; implement solutions to enhance system reliability.
  • Performance Metrics:Contribute to defining key performance metrics for Cloud services, enabling performance improvements and success measurement.
  • Solutions Development: Propose and develop solutions to maintain and enhance key performance indicators (KPIs) across our Cloud infrastructure.
  • Data Analysis:Gather and analyse metrics from operating systems and applications to optimise system performance and expedite fault resolution.
  • Innovation: Drive innovation by optimising system and infrastructure performance, anticipating customer needs, and proactively addressing scaling demands.
  • Scalability: Work closely with commercial functions to optimise our platform for scalability and meet growing customer demands.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Analyse and ensure the automation, scalability, and efficient management of our Cloud infrastructure.
  • Automation: Execute automation for known cloud operations tasks and create new automation solutions to streamline processes.
  • Software Development: Design, write, and deliver software and automation solutions to enhance the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of our PaaS services.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Participate in blame-free root cause analysis meetings to promote learning and continuous system improvement in the event of production system incidents.
  • Documentation: Create and contribute to policies and runbooks to ensure that operational processes are well-documented and consistently followed.
  • On-call Support: Provide on-call support, ensuring our Cloud services follow a 24/7 model by promptly responding to alerts, meeting SLAs, and automating root cause analysis.
  • Upgrades and Migrations: Plan and execute software upgrades, including Kubernetes versions. Manage and communicate migrations from Classic Cloud to the new Cloud platform.

Fastly’s Observability team is looking for a Staff Site Reliability Engineer who is passionate about building, scaling, and automating our internal platforms to provide global visibility to the health and performance of our networks. You will be working alongside other engineering and support teams, to provide insights and recommendations on how we make our services and software stacks more observable. Your focus in logging, metrics, distributed tracing and monitoring will be vital in this role to help Fastly grow our observability platforms.

What You’ll Do:

  • Focus on improving and scaling our logging pipelines, telemetry collection, and monitoring systems
  • Improve the performance and reliability of the observability platform infrastructure
  • Create and instrument critical business metrics for insights and transparency
  • Collaborate with other Fastly engineers to implement solutions that deliver value for our internal customer teams
  • You’ll participate in incident reviews to build improved alerts for detection and potential proactive mitigations

What We’re Looking For:

  • Extensive experience scaling out Prometheus architecture i.e. you are not just a user of Prometheus but have actually built the underlying infrastructure
  • Comfortable working with tools like OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Loki, Tempo, and Mimir
  • Extensive experience working with Linux operating systems focusing on metric collection and instrumentation
  • Implementing and scaling observability pipelines using self-managed, on premises, and open source software
  • Experience developing automation, orchestrations, and writing infrastructure as code for platform management
  • Comfortable working with scripting and interpreted languages, and test driven development
  • Excellent communication and listening skills, as well as a high degree of emotional intelligence

We’ll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these:

  • Deep understanding of challenges with high cardinality, churn, data volumes to anticipate capacity needs
  • A track record of working across multiple cloud platforms and physical environments to provide global visibility
  • Experience working with Clickhouse for time series data

About the Role:

We are looking to hire our next Implementation Engineer to support our in-house services group out of our San Francisco office. You will be responsible for managing our new customer deployments, managing project kickoffs, capturing business requirements, sharing best practices, and project managing overall deployment effort.

This is a highly visible role that will need to effectively coordinate all aspects of a services engagement between customer success team members, implementation engineers, and client resources. As a senior member of the team, you will provide thought leadership and guidance around Project Management principles which will be a responsibility interwoven throughout the services team and the broader organization.

The base compensation range, excluding bonus is: $85,000 – $114,000

What youll be doing:

  • Lead the technical implementation efforts for multiple customer projects in different phases.
  • Meet directly with client business users to inform and explain functionality of the software and walk through the integration with the relevant end-system.
  • Work with client teams to guide, configure, test, and troubleshoot integrations in line with standard methodologies and Demandbase best practices.
  • Communicate technical objectives and advise customers on best practices.
  • Work within the overall project plan and schedule and document clear solution reviews for account team and customer reference.
  • Act as a technical mentor for clients in transferring solution critical knowledge.
  • Advise clients on configuration and implementation options based on standard methodologies and facilitate custom integrations where necessary.
  • Ensure that all customer implementation work is complete, accurate, and on time.
  • Manage process delivery of client implementations and recommend changes to continually improve the process, including the creation of documentation where necessary.
  • Develop technical expertise with Demandbase solutions and maintain knowledge as features continue to evolve and new or updated products are rolled out over time.
  • Work cross-functionally to help plan, execute, and drive adoption of process improvements.
  • Support the organization in continuously optimizing the customer experience and pursuing successful interactions from onboarding through renewal.

What were looking for:

  • A degree in Engineering related discipline is a must. BS in Computer Science preferred.
  • 3-4 years of experience in a technical implementation role that is externally customer facing
  • A consistent track record in web application development (JavaScript) along with experience in working with API technologies.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript, XML and JSON.
  • Ability to read, write, solve problems and debug JavaScript code proficiently.
  • Proven understanding of website/internet technologies and ability to debug using browser tools.
  • Flexible in picking up custom projects that you may or may not be familiar with
  • Ability to prioritize and work efficiently on multiple concurrent customer projects.
  • Ability to quickly assess what a customer needs and translate that into configuration or integration specifications.

Additional experience helpful for success in this role:

  • Experience working with Tag Managers (GTM, Tealium, Launch) CMSs (Adobe, Optimizely, etc.) or MASs (Eloqua, Marketo, Pardot) is preferred.
  • Customer-facing and/or implementation experience in a professional services capacity for a SaaS product company preferred.
