Job Description

Block’s Security culture is focused on enabling our engineering teams to build and ship secure products. We achieve this by designing, building, and operating state of the art security alongside our product and infrastructure teams. Authorization Infrastructure builds, grows and maintains zero trust distributed authorization systems that are the choke point for consistent policy enforcement.

The systems we secure are diverse in type and language, and distributed across different cloud platforms and data centers. We are looking for a strong staff software engineer with security experience to lead the development and growth of this authorization infrastructure.

You will:

  • Design, develop, and own zero trust authorization platforms for Square’s evolving corporate and production landscapes.
  • Lead large cross organizational projects building access control primitives that engineering teams across the company can leverage in their systems to improve their security posture
  • Lead multi-person projects and across engineering teams and stakeholders that reduce access risk
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to level up your teammates.

Qualifications

You have:

  • 10+ years of experience as a software and/or security engineer
  • Deep hands-on technical expertise in at least one major technical area: distributed systems, IAM, digital identity systems, graph theory
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex, cross organizational projects from concept to launch
  • A high bar for writing scalable, robust, and testable code
  • A strong desire to perform and grow as a security engineer and educate other engineers

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Optimise Ubuntu for Public Clouds

Canonical Ubuntu is the primary platform for public cloud computing, in part because we invest in the cloud user experience, cloud tooling, and optimise Ubuntu for each of the major public clouds. Making Ubuntu leaner, faster, more efficient and easier to use on the public clouds saves our user base a huge amount of time and money, and enables them to accelerate their work on the cloud.

We are the upstream lead for cloud-init, a critical tool in the world of cloud computing. Every cloud supports cloud-init, and it is a standard way to initialize and shape the behaviour of virtual machines on cloud infrastructure. You’ll work with the Ubuntu Server team alongside major cloud partners to help develop, test, and release improvements to cloud-init, and be a key voice in the cloud-init open source community.

This role requires quality-oriented software engineering in Python, an awareness of public cloud norms and expectations, and a focus on software performance. Excellent Python skills are required, with substantial contributions to open source Python projects preferred.

Applicants should be passionate about building tools that are used by millions of developers. A personal interest and emphasis on quality, documentation, and careful community coordination is important. Cloud-init is used beyond Ubuntu and the community is vast.   • Build SEO-friendly CMS solutions with customized fields in partnership with Engineering
  • Conduct keyword research to inform the Product Architecture and Content Marketing Strategies
  • Conduct client competitor research to develop meaningful, quantitative and qualitative insights that drive qualified organic traffic
  • Design reporting dashboards with event tracking, custom formulas, and segmentation in partnership with Analytics Architects to highlight the success of our work to clients
  • Leverage analytics tools to identify gaps or friction in the user journey to better drive qualified traffic and enhance conversion rate
  • Stay on top of industry trends and search engine algorithms to inform new strategies
  • Develop and deliver presentations that highlight SEO insights, technical enhancements, content recommendations, training materials, etc. for internal and client teams

Qualifications

  • You’re knowledgeable about modern web technologies and understand server-side rendering, single-page applications, and how bots crawl a site
  • Basic understanding of HTML, JavaScript, CSS, JSON-LD and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
  • You’ve developed or helped implement technical SEO and content recommendations that drove organic search growth and met a client’s business outcomes
  • Understand the importance of Conversion Rate Optimization and how SEO overlaps with this discipline
  • Ability to communicate your ideas and tactical recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • An eye for detail and a belief in documentation and organization
