Job Description

Title: Senior Product Designer

Location: Remote

Job Description:

Kids spend most of their days in the classroom. And teachers and staff, who play a vital role in their development, are often the first to notice when something is off. But with 1 in 5 young people struggling with mental health, schools are getting crushed by a downward spiral in student crises and staff burnout.

With large increases in federal funding for schools and the rise of telehealth, schools are reimagining what mental health support can look like.

Cartwheel is a trusted mental health partner to schools, students, and families.. We see our role as supporting on-campus counselors, psychologists, and school social workers who see kids every day. Instead of going around them, we collaborate with them. This means:

  • Earlier intervention
  • Higher student and family engagement in care
  • Better coordination among the trusted adults in a students life

Kids shouldn’t just aspire to get out of bed and drag themselves to class. They should be able to experience joy. They deserve to envision and build a life theyre excited to live. If you join Cartwheel, youll help make this vision a reality for millions of students across the country. Were backed by top investors including Menlo Ventures, Reach Capital, General Catalyst, BoxGroup, and Able Partners, and we’re looking for mission-driven teammates to join our team.

  • School experience: Schools need to see Cartwheel as a trusted partner in every interaction they have with us. Youll make it easy for new schools to launch, ensure school staff experience insightful interactions with our team, and improve our web-app for school district administrators with a focus on tracking clinical outcomes to make data-driven decisions about their school districts mental health.
  • Clinical experience: Clinicians are at the core of our product.Youll design an intuitive, easy onboarding experience for clinicians joining our platform, and youll eliminate administrative tasks that get in the way of clinicians providing high-quality care for students and families.
  • Students and families: Students and families deserve access to the care they need as soon as they need it. Youll help students and families book their first session right away, be thoughtfully matched to an excellent clinician, and feel informed and engaged throughout treatment. (Example workflow improvements include accessibility, parental consent, scheduling, asynchronous messaging, and coordination with external providers.)

User Research: Connect with our core users to build empathy and drive user-centered design work.

  • Youll get to know school staff and administrators as our target customers so you deeply understand and anticipate their needs and expectations.
  • Youll connect with clinicians and other key internal users to understand how they support kids and schools and how design and technology can supercharge this.

Design Systems: Collaborate with the design team to continue building our design system and with engineering to deliver high-impact, highly usable experiences.

  • Youll contribute to our existing design framework and will work closely with the design team to critique and improve our collective design output.
  • Youll closely collaborate with product, engineering, and marketing.
