About the Role

The Athletic is looking to become a global leader in sports video, and we are looking for an industry leader, creative and audience visionary to develop our video capabilities and shows across platforms. The Managing Editor, Global Video will have creative accountability for all The Athletic video, in addition to leading the North American and International video teams. This leader will be tasked with developing high quality video that fits The Athletic’s journalistic sensibility, that can also reach large and engaged audiences across social, YouTube and on-platform. Central to this creative success will be the leadership of our video teams globally, pushing their creative capabilities and creating a culture in which their teams can thrive.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the production and growth teams with regular check ins and manage the staff of the entire video department.
  • Partner with leadership to set ambitious goals and manage the team effectively toward those goals, with wide latitude in how goals are accomplished.
  • Understand where tradeoffs need to happen across shows and be proactive with solutions.
  • Curate formats, shows, and hosts that will offer viewers a distinctive, high quality and entertaining experience and help drive commercial revenue.
  • Build shows with a diverse set of hosts and guests.
  • Think about properties as franchises, and come up with new ways to build audience/promote network growth.
  • Partner with vertical leads across the newsroom to align with and complement our editorial strategy.
  • Work with the Managing Editor of audio to develop an audio strategy around our video properties that serves as both a complement and a new platform to build original Athletic content.
  • Work closely with the commercial team to monetize content and create strong, long lasting brand partnerships.
  • Serve as the connective tissue between video production and the heads of all other departments within the company to ensure that the video team’s output is appropriately supported, promoted, and monetized.
  • Develop meaningful relationships with leaders throughout HQ.
  • Provide input into the organization of the production team to ensure the team is set up to achieve its ambitious growth targets while staying within budget.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience producing video for online platforms, including live-action shoots.
  • A track record when it comes to launching and sustaining successful video series.
  • Expert knowledge of a wide range of video formats and distribution channels. Has a finger on the pulse of industry trends and can see ahead 12-18 months.
  • Deep and intimate understanding of how online video algorithms work, with an exceptional ability to crack these algorithms and make videos go viral across YouTube, TikTok and social.
  • Extensive programming experience and demonstrable knowledge of video platforms best practice, such as optimizing video titles, descriptions, hashtags and thumbnails.
  • A master of video analytics, with an ability to explain why a video did or didn’t perform well.
  • Has a deep understanding of sports with a fluency in how topics are covered and discussed by fans. Has an eye for high quality creative output that resonates with listeners.
  • Experience working on commercial projects, e.g. branded content
  • Is an excellent leader who enjoys facilitating the personal development of colleagues.

We’re excited to add an Associate Creative Director to the team! We are looking for someone who is highly adaptable, detail-oriented and is able to work in a fast-paced startup environment!

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Head of Ecommerce to create up-to-date and on-brand creatives for Amazon and other online marketplaces.
  • Work closely to support our Digital Design + UX/UI Designer and UX/UI Design Manager in creating optimized, on-brand digital assets that perform successfully in various marketplaces and on our direct-to-consumer website.
  • Work within brand guidelines to execute layouts and generate assets that reinforce Lume’s brand voice through its digital touchpoints
  • Participate in ideation and review meetings with designers and copywriters
  • Upload to-spec optimized assets to content management systems
  • Build out landing pages in a WYSIWYG editor.
  • Retouch and edit all forms of imagery as needed.

Title: Instructor, Cybersecurity

Location: Remote

As an Instructor, you will work with a cohort of students throughout the Cybersecurity Engineering Program from orientation to graduation. You will be responsible for coordinating, preparing for and delivering key components of a student’s course structure, to include lectures, labs, one-on-one instruction and study groups. You will act as their go-to technical resource and subject matter expert as they work through the program. You will work with fellow faculty and staff to develop and deliver course material, troubleshoot curriculum issues, build community within our student body, and overall create productive, inspired, employable practitioners of a technical craft. You may assist in onboarding new instructors, participate in internal and external events, participate in strategic planning, substitute for absent peers or other instructors. This role is a Full-Time instructional role requiring individuals to teach Monday-Friday from 9am-6pm EST.

Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with students as their dedicated leader for the course, elevating them to meet our technical bar.
  • Lecture on one or more of the course curriculum topics.
  • Conduct hands on lab sessions with students daily to allow them to put lecture materials into practice to reinforce learning.
  • Maintain the pace of the course: Keep students on track, monitor each individual’s progress, and design and implement learning or service interventions when students fall behind, in partnership with campus leadership.
  • Work with external departments to constantly improve course curriculum, student matriculation and overall student success.
  • Help students in real-time, through group or one-on-one meetings, chat, and live video conversations, tending towards the most high-fidelity experiences.

    • A High School Diploma AND 7 years of full-time (or equivalent) in-field (non-teaching) work experience.
    • Any part time experience will be counted as half-time for experience requirements. (For example, 4 years of part-time experience = 2 years full-time experience).
  • In-field experience does not include previous instructional / teaching experience.

Licensing:

  • All Instructors licensed in New York will be required to participate in yearly training that is required and facilitated by New York State to maintain their teaching license. This may require weekend courses depending on course availability.
  • All Instructors/Faculty Managers/Campus Directors will be required to maintain licensure in required states per compliance standards.
  • Minimum experience requirements are set by state regulators where Flatiron School operates and are not negotiable. Due to state licensure requirements, all claimed education and experience will need official documentation, such as official transcripts or letters of verification from previous employers.
  • Instructors may be asked to disclose criminal history and provide court documents per state regulator licensing requirements.
