This role is focused on providing both technical expertise and exceptional customer service for our North American clients. You’ll be a part of the dynamic Customer Success Team at Phorest Salon Software, contributing to our clients’ successful onboarding journey. You will be responsible for taking the lead, planning and executing data migrations of new top-tier customers to the Phorest platform.

What Youll Do

Lead our Data Migration Team & report back to the Head of CS in region

Work closely with clients to understand their data migration needs and timelines.

Develop and execute comprehensive data migration plans, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.

Provide ongoing support and guidance to clients, including problem resolution.

Collaborate with the development team to refine and improve the data migration process.

Plan and manage complex data migrations, particularly for premium clients.

Analyze customer needs in collaboration with our data migration analyst, identifying process gaps.

Work cross-functionally with sales, customer success, and product teams to deliver a seamless client experience.

What Were Looking For

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

Minimum 3+ years of experience in data migration, data analysis, or a related field.

Minimum 2+ years of leading and coaching a team

A problem solver who loves technical challenges to deliver customer value

Strong technical skills with proficiency in SQL and other databases.

Strong understanding of programming and scripting languages like python.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent customer service skills with a comfortable client-facing demeanor

About the role and why its unique:

  • As a Senior Data Engineer on the Transformation team, youll be instrumental in the development of Underdogs reporting layer by designing models in DBT, focused specifically on our Sportsbook product
  • In this role, you will work cross-functionally with Data Scientists, Product Managers, and other stakeholders across the business to understand Sportsbook data needs to design performant, flexible, and low-technical-debt solutions
  • Using BigQuery and DBT, design and execute a scalable Sportsbook reporting layer that minimizes technical debt, makes efficient use of BQ resources, keeps data fresh, adheres to Underdog best practices, and allows stakeholders to access the data they need
  • Create and maintain tests and documentation about the reporting layer inside the DBT models, to enable Data Scientists to quickly find what they need
  • Perform validation and data integrity checks on new datasets and load procedures before delivery to stakeholders, investigating and resolving data discrepancies and escalating to the engineering team or other teams as needed
  • Stay abreast of all of Underdog’s Sportsbook data models, processes, business rules, contest rules, and product functionality, including compliance and regulatory considerations; plan/execute needed changes in the reporting layer
  • Use your expertise to help shape and execute data policies around PII handling
  • Assist Data Scientists in developing analytics datasets to meet the needs of the business
  • Meet with stakeholders as needed to discuss existing and upcoming data projects and deliverables; stakeholders include, but are not limited to: Product Managers, Engineers, other members of the Data team, third-party vendors, and other team members throughout the organization who are involved in data projects
  • Communicate continuously about progress, blockers, and anything else related to assigned tasks
  • Document and report issues with source data and follow up with owners on resolution/path forward
  • Use Jira proactively to manage tasks and deliverables; participate in regular sprint planning and retrospective meetings
  • Periodically present your work at team lunch-and-learn meetings
  • Proactively look for ways we can continuously improve our architecture in the reporting layer, as well as our team processes

  • Familiarity with ETL/ELT concepts and best practices
  • Advanced proficiency with SQL
  • Intermediate or better proficiency with Python
  • Experience handling Personally Identifiable Information (PII) in a heavily regulated industry

  • Meticulously refactor bunches of reports decimating code size and run time while preserving results
  • Intelligently manage tech debt while simultaneously delivering new features for the business
  • Participate in a Kanban/Devops dev process with fluid requirements, weekly scrums, and potentially be on-call w/Pagerduty
