The Marketing Design Manager will oversee visual marketing of the Wayside Publishing brand and product portfolio. Reporting to the Director of Marketing, this role is pivotal in shaping the creative direction for all marketing materials, including digital ads, social media graphics, and promotional content. The Marketing Design Manager ensures that all marketing initiatives enhance brand visibility and engagement while maintaining consistency with our educational mission. This position will actively collaborate with other functional teams to help drive and shape the company brand and identity.

Wayside Publishing is a progressive developer of world language programs, resources, and materials for middle and high schools across the United States. We partner with educators to craft transformative texts and digital tools that engage students and foster successful communication and understanding across cultures.
Primary Responsibilities:
Team Leadership:
- Overseeing the functional areas of the department, establishing best practices including managing design functions.
Creative Strategy Development:
- Lead the strategic planning and execution of creative marketing strategies that effectively to convey the value of our educational products.
- Supervise the creation and adaptation of visual communication materials for various marketing channels to ensure alignment with brand and educational goals.
Brand Consistency:
- Ensure brand integrity across all marketing initiatives and communications, adapting visual strategies for diverse markets while maintaining core brand identity.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive brand guidelines, ensuring all marketing communications reflect consistent messaging and aesthetics.
Collaboration and Advisory:
- Collaborate with product management and digital strategy teams to align marketing communications with product offerings, particularly digital learning tools.
- Advise on the marketing aspects of online platform development, ensuring promotional content supports user engagement and educational outcomes.
External Collaboration:
- Manage relationships with external agencies and freelancers to ensure the delivery of innovative, high-quality creative content.
- Act as the primary liaison for creative strategy discussions with external partners, ensuring projects align with strategic marketing goals.
Analytics and Optimization:
- Monitor and analyze marketing performance to refine creative strategies and maximize impact.
- Provide insights and recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and initiatives based on data-driven analysis.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Marketing, or a related field
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in creative direction or marketing communications, preferably within the publishing or educational sectors.
- Leadership qualities, including the ability to motivate, exhibit flexibility, prioritize, attend to detail, solve problems, make decisions, manage time, adapt to change, and remain calm and positive under pressure.
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, Project Management software such as Wrike and ProofHQ, and a strong understanding of digital marketing tools and strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a creative team and manage multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external partners.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to think strategically about brand positioning and marketing communications.
Additional Skills:
- Experience in advising on digital media and educational content marketing strategies.
- Proven track record of innovative thinking in marketing strategy and creative execution.
