Title: Associate Director, Audience (Politics)

Quick take: Axios is hiring an experienced newsroom audience specialist to grow and engage readership for our political and world news coverage.
Why it matters: This person will be responsible for broadening and deepening the audience experience across platforms, including newsletters, the web and social.
- You will understand the differences in how users engage with our web vs. newsletter content and will take on a leading role in shaping our coverage to meet those specific needs.
- You will have instincts on what will travel on distributed platforms, you recognize how Axios political coverage distinguishes itself from competitors and have a clear sense of what makes it a must-read with our audience.
Responsibilities:
- Take ownership for the web performance of political and world news stories, building processes to ensure that coverage with potential to win site audience is thoughtfully planned.
- Play a leadership role within the audience team and advance team goals across the newsroom.
- Point person for identifying politics stories that are well-suited to be adapted and shared through other Axios distribution points — including Local and social video.
- Develop coverage plans for upcoming, anticipatable news moments — including elections, legislation and major court decisions — to meet expected audience demand. Win the buy-in of the Politics editor and newsdesk to execute an optimal plan.
- Interpret, contextualize and communicate actionable performance data to politics editors.
- Advise on how best to translate coverage in newsletters to the web — which stories should be prioritized, which should be published outside of the newsletter schedule and which can be left to a newsletter-only audience.
- Generate ideas for reader-service stories. These pieces will be targeted to a broader audience and often will be more explanatory than what readers find in Axios newsletters. Be open and able to write these stories.
- Develop and execute tactics to grow the public profiles of our most conversation-driving politics reporters.
- Develop and execute experiments to cultivate niche audiences in targeted online communities that align with Axios subject matter experts.

HOW A HUMAN FACTORS ENGINEER ADVISOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

A DAY IN THE LIFE
Our Principal/Senior Consultant – IT Data/Systems Management – EHS/ESG position is fully-remote. [Internally-facing title: Principal IT Data Management Analyst.]
We are looking for experienced and enthusiastic leaders (and ideally seller-doers) with the ability to work from home full-time and with remote colleagues and clients on system planning, setup, and support projects. You will plan and design projects with clients and senior consultants, and you will establish frameworks for you and team members to execute against. With a project manager, you will be responsible for completing projects according to purpose, plan, schedule, and budget.
The job involves applying strong project delivery skills with subject matter expertise in commercial off-the-shelf systems and EHS & ESG. You will be responsible for the technical leadership, architecture/design, review, and hands-on execution of EHS&S IT projects.
This position is within our EHS&S Management Information Solutions Team, which provides quality work, responds quickly and works effectively with supportive teams. This business line focuses solely on the strategy, selection, setup, and support of leading ESG/EHS information management systems to help our customers manage compliance, risk, and return value. This includes air emissions, greenhouse gas, sustainability (ESG), permit tracking, incident management, inspections, audits, observations, occupational health, control of work, etc.
As a key member of the EHS&S Management Information Solutions team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:
- Manage various EHS&S information management software applications and associated content (compliance tasks, operating data, audit/inspection checklists, ESG frameworks, etc.) .
- Architect and lead systems/reports that require reliable math and logic skills that will be applied to emissions calculations, validation, and analysis.
- Facilitate gathering of business requirements and translating them into easy-to-understand specifications used to setup COTS (commercial off the shelf software). This includes helping clients build an Inventory Management Plans (air emissions and more) after helping define a vision, boundaries, materiality, and data availability.
- Evaluate AS-IS processes, identify areas for improvement, develop TO-BE requirements and document gaps.
- Think critically about operational efficiency and identify areas for continuous improvement.
- Translate business requirements to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Create and/or review design specifications, test scripts and training guides.
- Create project plans and define action items.
- Recognize and escalate conflicts between client, staff, and software vendors – and within scopes of work.
