Employer: HubSpot
About the team
The HubSpot Product team is made up of over 1000 engineers, designers, product managers, and researchers. We’re passionate about building tools that help small and medium-sized businesses market, sell, and serve their customers and ultimately, grow better.
Those tools end up in the HubSpot application platform, which itself is made up of thousands of services, workers, and jobs spanning over 170 teams and thousands of repos. Our teams work autonomously to deploy these systems across a common infrastructure, up to 3,000 times a day. As we’ve grown to serve in excess of 100,000 customers in over 100 countries, reliability and stability have become just as important as speed and time to market. And as we’ve opened up our APIs, our product has moved to the core of many of our customers’ and partners’ businesses.
In 2019, we built an SRE team to help our product teams focus on delivering highly available and dependable products. This team is off to a great start: evangelizing, building tools, and embedding onto product teams. We want to broaden this team’s impact by building a sister team focused on chaos engineering.
Chaos engineering is a new discipline at HubSpot. As the Tech Lead of the team, you will have autonomy to help set the goals and guide the direction of the team. As we move from a reactive to proactive stance on reliability engineering, the chaos team will be instrumental in helping product and infrastructure teams better handle system failures. The primary focus of the team will be to safely degrade the state of product applications and infrastructure services to determine how they fail and to ensure they fail in ways that minimize customer pain.
The team will embark on a combination of tasks, building tooling, orchestrating game days, consulting and embedding on teams to help with remediations, and evangelizing failure testing.
What we’re looking for:
- Interest or experience with chaos engineering, SRE culture, and improving reliability with automation
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems and cloud infrastructure at scale
- Interest or experience with evangelizing best practices and working collaboratively with other engineering teams to solve for the customer
We know the confidence gap and imposter syndrome can get in the way of meeting spectacular candidates, so please don’t hesitate to apply we’d love to hear from you.
Important COVID-19 Guidance (For candidates applying to roles in the United States):
In September 2021, the US government issued new federal vaccine guidance that certain government contractors must adhere to. HubSpot is a covered federal contractor and so, based on this guidance, our US-based employees are required to be vaccinated, and show proof of vaccination, by Dec. 8, 2021. What does this mean for you as a potential candidate? It means that if you were to join HubSpot, you would need to be fully vaccinated by Dec. 8, 2021 or by your hire date (whichever is later) to be eligible to start in the role. As a condition of employment, you would need to submit official COVID-19 vaccine documentation. HubSpot will consider and review reasonable accommodation requests based on medical or religious grounds for qualified candidates. Please consider this new requirement when applying to HubSpot.

Employer: HubSpot
About the team
We’re looking for talented software engineers to work with us on building a multi-channel communication platform that enables teams to communicate with prospects and customers in real-time.
We’re still very early on in this journey and are looking for experienced backend engineers to help us build an extensible platform that allows businesses to communicate wherever their audiences are, provide them with contextual information and insights, automate routine tasks, and decide what to act on next.
We want folks who are excited about answers to questions like: How can we make communication across many different channels feel seamless? How do we make the product resilient and fault tolerant as we rely on an increasing number of channel integrations? How can we build a complex product that’s also a joy to use?
What we’re looking for:
- A strong engineer interested in writing in JavaScript
- Take ownership, work collaboratively, and figure things out
- Consistently work to deliver reliable, performant, well-tested code
- Have a thirst for technical challenges
- Demonstrate pragmatic decision making and problem-solving abilities
- Have a customer-centric attitude and develop opinions about the HubSpot product
- Can think through problems with a real-time angle, as live conversations between our customers and their customers are always-on, and don’t follow a typical request/response model

We know the confidence gap and imposter syndrome can get in the way of meeting spectacular candidates, so please don’t hesitate to apply we’d love to hear from you.
