Space.com reveals the wonders of the universe by bringing the journey down to earth. Our mission is to inspire casual sky watchers and space fans of all ages with vivid stories and images celebrating cosmic events and discoveries, human spaceflight and robotic exploration.

We’re looking for an Astronomy Editor to join us on Space.com, responsible for overseeing science, astronomy and physics coverage. You’ll work with the Editor-in-Chief and Editor to create a strategy for the Astronomy channel, then commission, write and check features designed to be world-leading resources in this field.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll oversee astronomy news, and coordinate with staff and freelancers to ensure that core news areas are covered and researching new areas to cover as warranted. You’ll commission articles and features with freelancers and oversee their implementation and invoicing when needed

You’ll work on the optimization and maintenance of core evergreen content, keep up to date with industry trends and ensure we’re delivering this to our audience and create thoughtful analysis and opinion pieces to help our astronomy / science coverage stand out. There’ll also be the chance to travel for key science conferences and event coverage.

This position is part of PNC’s Tempus Technologies organization. As a Sr Content Designer, you be responsible for translating complex technical concepts into everyday language. In this role you will work closely with our software architects and engineers to gain an understanding of your assigned project or software functionality, and you will then generate a standardized documentation on that where members of our partnering teams (sales, service partners, etc.) can consume. You will also be responsible for end user training, as well as training material documentation.

Due to the nature of this position, we are seeking candidates who have a background in technical writing and document creation. Preferred candidates will be technically proficient and be able to suggest formats responsive to technical and client requirements. Training background also preferred.

Job Description

  • As a part of the digital product development process, create content for digital experiences and serve as a subject matter expert for content. Partner with writers, experience designers, agile development teams, and core product team members. Serve as strong, critical voice to deliver an engaging, consistent, and accessible experience to our audiences.
  • Create content and serve as a subject matter expert in voice, style, and grammar. Work closely with other Content Designers and Experience Designers on established products.
  • Identify problems and consult on creative content solutions that educate and empower users.
  • Maintain and champion content guidelines that provide consistent language and labeling across a range of touchpoints.
  • Lead user research initiatives; overseeing test plans, interview guides, test scripts, and analysis documents.
  • Develop content in the digital product development process and partner with product managers for legal, risk, and compliance reviews.

Position Requirements

  • A minimum of 5+ years of professional design experience in an agency, marketing or communications setting
