Have you ever thought about making a difference with your web design skills? In this role, the Website Management Specialist will manage the websites for three major projects funded by the National Institutes of Health focusing on HIV and other diseases impacting global health. They will work directly with scientists and researchers to communicate vital study information, ensure visual design communicates the desired message and is consistent across the websites, and ensure that the websites function successfully for varying technical and performance specifications. They will also assist with marketing and campaign needs from a digital and reporting perspective and may occasionally develop graphical and other multimedia content on web sites and for other platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees network websites from a functional, operational, design, and project management perspective.
  • Involved in selecting, managing and interfacing with external vendors for website and data dashboard design, development and enhancement.
  • Creates and manages study-specific websites using content management systems such as WordPress.
  • Creates or collaborates on the creation of all online visual design, including typography, visual concept, logo and icon design for the websites and interactive platforms.
  • Coordinates with applications analysts for specialized scripts for websites.
  • Leads the effort in strategic design and user interface direction:
  • Gathers information and architecture requirements from key stakeholders in cross-functional meetings.
  • Determines style, size, and arrangement of type and illustrations.
  • Enhances the usability of websites by creating and policing coding standards and best practices for user interface, site organization, navigation, color palette, fonts, page layout, and graphical elements.
  • Liaises with internal website experts to facilitate development of graphical and other multimedia content websites.
  • Serves as main contact for external website developers.
  • Recommends plugins and modules for websites such as translation services or contact form software.
  • Executes changes/enhancements to websites, aligning with the needs of the Networks and with emerging online trends/tools.
  • Conducts regular monitoring and reporting of web metrics, keeping in mind the overall goals of the Networks.
  • Assists with graphic materials for network conferences and meetings (PowerPoint presentations, materials, signage, and research posters) as needed.
  • Creates or edits study materials, advertisements, mobile and social media ad campaigns.
  • Effectively communicates and coordinates with clinical research managers, community program managers, and communications officers to ensure that the visual design communicates the desired message, and functions successfully for varying technical and performance specifications.
  • May serve a marketing function for digital projects such as ad campaign management.
  • Captures and edits photos and video as needed. Creates accessible links to video trainings and webinars for study teams using platforms such as Vimeo.
  • Joins relevant stakeholder and partner calls in relation to digital efforts, branding, and study communications activities.
  • May assist with copyediting for newsletters, documents, press releases, and other written materials as needed.
  • Stays abreast of emerging website trends and new technologies/tools within field. Assesses new software products and web solutions, advising on the best to adopt and on emerging best practices.
  • Accountable for immediate response and resolution of any website problems that may emerge.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or its international equivalent in computers, graphic design, web design, computer Science, marketing, or other related field.
  • Certifications in web development, web design, and web programming preferred.
  • 5-8 years of experience with developing, structuring, and managing web site designs.
  • Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), research, or public health setting is a plus.
  • Strong skills in HTML/CSS, and familiarity with CMS platforms.
  • Knowledge of web-based display issues, such as web-safe color palettes, ADA compliance, resolution, file size, and file formats.
  • Design abilities in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign a plus.
  • Experience in Google Analytics and other analytics tools, and experience using that information to inform future projects.
  • Understanding of site optimization techniques (SEO).
  • Experience in corporate branding, layout, color theory, and typography in both print and digital media.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with databases (Oracle, SQL Server, etc.) recommended.
  • Illustration and animation skills and experience with video and photography are a plus.
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to accurately proof code and content.
  • Self-motivated, positive attitude, team-player and strong work ethic.
  • Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English.
