Design at UHG is the incredible cross discipline team that brings the head and the heart together for UnitedHealthcare, Optum and beyond. As a Product Designer you will be the glue that enables better design in the healthcare space at the biggest scale. Design with and for our Members and Consumers, learn from and improve our community of practice and have a direct impact on health outcomes at the biggest scale in the world.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Design Leads and Product to drive discovery and support our key lines of business
  • Drive the UX design thinking and user research to prototype, test, and rapidly iterate ideas for our products (native apps and websites)
  • Establish a perspective and clearly articulate the thinking behind design decisions
  • Collaborate with our user research team to qualitatively understand and improve the member’s health journey
  • Partner with our UX researchers and UX writers to understand and communicate the user behaviors and complex user journeys on our products
  • Create workflows, wireframes, customer journey maps, high-fidelity comps and prototypes to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas. Research, brainstorm and translate conceptual ideas into engaging, visually-rich designs solutions
  • Cultivate relationships with Optum and United Design creative teams to elevate and articulate the brand vision
  • Work closely with engineers in multiple locations to implement the features you and your team design, while ensuring quality output
  • Contribute to and benefit from the larger United Design team culture, including rituals, events, and getting and giving feedback

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience shipping web and mobile products, while working in an agile cross-functional environment
  • 3+ years of experience Rapid prototyping, iterating, and refining design solutions based on user feedback
  • 3+ years of experience Creating design artifacts (user journeys, wireframes, functional specs)
  • 3+ years of experience using industry standard tools (i.e., Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Slack/Microsoft Teams, Jira)
  • Portfolio link atop your resume that shows app and web design experience that has directly impacted commercial performance, or business KPIs. Extensive examples of clear UX solutions and the ability to make sense of complex workflows

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human computer interaction (HCI), interaction design, graphic design; or relevant certificate
  • Experience presenting design work to others, solid articulation and speaking skills
  • Knowledge of design research methods, and how user insights and behaviors can inform design decisions and strategies
  • Understanding of Human Interface Guidelines, Material Design, and app design best practices
  • Understanding of current native app & web technology capabilities and limitations (HTML/CSS/Jquery/React)
  • Familiarity with accessible design and best practices
  • Familiarity with how adjacent disciplines (strategy, product, research, tech, etc.) relate to design
  • Data-driven mindset: Familiarity and experience with hypothesis-driven design as well as qualitative and quantitative testing
  • Ability to create design solutions based on specific product requirements, and an interest in shaping those requirements
  • Ability to work with an existing design system, and can clearly articulate when to break out and make new extensible patterns
  • Ability to design clear and thoughtful experiences that strike a balance between user and business needs
  • Ability to collaborate and contribute to product strategy
  • Keen eye for detail, while knowing how to rapidly solve problems. Using everything from a basic sketch to high fidelity prototypes
  • Holistic approach to problem-solving; you’re a visual thinker and rapid synthesizer of information
  • Your process for problem-solving (in addition to the polished, final design work)
  • Love of cultural brands and an interest in driving the future of storytelling
