Brief Overview:

We are driving a digital revolution in healthcare that is dramatically improving the access to, quality of and affordability of care. We need a driven, passionate, and seasoned senior UX Design leader to play a critical role in developing and guiding the user experience and research strategy of this revolution. These products literally help improve lives every day by helping patients get the help they need for everything from a sore throat to anxiety to a stroke.

This leader will be a key part of the collective product development leadership team, reporting to the Chief Product Officer.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement design strategy, principles, processes, and tools to guide the design of Amwell products
  • Create, socialize, and implement user experience strategies for the product portfolio
  • Provide key upstream guidance in the product development lifecycle on personas and user segments and their unique needs to shape the future roadmap of innovations and existing products
  • Partner with product leadership to define goals for the user experience team, monitor progress, and track results
  • Define effective cross-functional collaboration approaches within the product and engineering group, optimizing UX team delivery processes in partnership with product management, engineering, marketing, and other relevant teams
  • Ensure products meet objectives for usability, adhere to relevant design, localization, and accessibility standards, comply with company identity guidelines, and deliver positive experiences
  • Attract, recruit, coach, and retain exceptional talent
  • Grow the next level of leaders, ensuring that team members are equipped with the necessary skillsets, processes, training, and tools to execute great work
  • Infuse the team culture with a design thinking mindset to solve business, product, and user problems


  • 10+ years of experience successfully leading and managing large multi-disciplinary design teams
  • A portfolio of work demonstrating experience creating great user-centered design solutions
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and storytelling skills
  • Proven experience with rapid, iterative research, design and development processes
  • Proven track record presenting to and influencing people, from other designers to senior executive management
  • Experience presenting to and effectively advising senior leaders outside of design
  • Experience leading projects in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team including designers, researchers, design technologists, writers, product managers, program managers, and software developers
  • Fluency in best practices for multi-platform research, information architecture and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques
  • Bachelor’s, or equivalent degree, in Design, HCI, or related field or equivalent professional experience within the design field
