Are you passionate about the ability of high-quality journalism and other forms of digital content to empower leaders in the private sector and beyond to confront the climate crisis?
GreenBiz Group is looking for a Vice President, Editorial to oversee an expansion and invigoration of our digital content offerings and operations. The successful candidate will work closely with other leaders at the company to:
- Create and implement a new editorial strategy for GreenBiz news stories, op-eds, newsletters, podcasts and other content.
- Oversee editorial operations, including managing the team’s budget.
- Play a central role in the development of new content products, including a new editorial website.
The role requires editorial experience, with a focus on business journalism and, ideally, coverage of sustainability and/or climate change; proven leadership skills; an ability to think holistically about the creation of new content products; and an interest in collaborating with peers in sales, marketing and technology to build those products.
This successful candidate will report to the SVP Product and Content. Beyond the responsibilities outlined below, additional duties may emerge as business needs for this position evolve.
Overall compensation (base salary + discretionary bonus) for this role will be provided commensurate with years of experience and qualifications within the following range: $170,000 – $215,000, plus health and wellness benefits.
Key responsibilities include:
In collaboration with the SVP Product and Content, create and implement a new editorial strategy
- Develop top-level goals for audience size, demographics and impact metrics.
- Evaluate and evolve the focus, voice and design of existing content formats, including news stories, op-eds, newsletters, podcasts and our forthcoming video explainer series.
- Evolve the editorial team’s structure and operations — including making at least two hires in 2023 — to optimize for execution of the new strategy.
- Create a new analytics process that accelerates progress towards top-level goals.
Oversee editorial team operations and output
- Manage the team’s reporters and Managing Editor.
- Contribute to the editing of news stories, op-eds and newsletters.
- Manage the team’s budget for freelancers, travel and other expenses.
- Collaborate with GreenBiz analysts on newsletters.
- Oversee special editorial projects, including our annual 30 Under 30 list.
In collaboration with other GreenBiz leaders, develop new editorial products
- Play a central role in the team that will redesign our editorial website.
- Help craft editorial strategy for our forthcoming online learning platform.
- Represent editorial in other product development processes.
Support the success of the broader GreenBiz team
- Contribute to our in-person and digital events. Opportunities include moderating discussions and conducting interviews in breakout sessions and on the main stage.
Qualifications
- 10+ years experience in media, with at least 3 years in editorial leadership
- Knowledge of climate and sustainability issues, particularly from the private sector perspective
- Experience with audience development and the creation of new content products
- Experience collaborating closely with colleagues on analyst teams and elsewhere outside editorial, including in sales, marketing and technology
- Deep understanding of digital media platforms and industry best-practices, including subscription-based revenue models
- Exceptional communication with strong speaking and interpersonal skills
- An ambitious, creative personality, with a can-do attitude
- Quick thinking, learning and problem-solving capability
- Flexibility in a constantly evolving environment
- Strong attention to detail with proven project management, time management and multitasking skills
