What You’ll Do
The enterprise Experience Design Team at Principal is looking for a UX Designer, mobile app to join our Customer Experience (CX) team to lead design on our mobile app. You’ll be the lead visual and interaction designer on our Principal mobile app team, a cross-functional product team including a product manager and engineers. You’ll conduct user-centered research, design user-centered experiences, and collaborate on user experience (UX) strategy for the app with minimal supervision. You’ll use best practices and take advantage of modern trends to refine and optimize our app for iOS and Android audiences, align to our in-house design system and stay in sync with changes to our web experience. You’ll also advocate for creating accessible experiences and strive to deliver equitable experiences that meet the needs of users whatever their ableness.
What you’ll be working on:
- Synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data sources for mobile app usage, including industry trends, and identifying research and design opportunities.
- Building wireframes and prototypes that reflect insights. Leverage design patterns to guide customer interaction in intuitive ways. Participate regularly in design review and critique when generating and refining ideas.
- Collaborating with software engineers to determine feasibility of the design experience, business stakeholders on alignment to priorities, and Product and CX peers on identifying gaps in our existing experience and developing solutions to fill them.
- Finding opportunities for, and conducting, customer research such as usability studies to understand the efficacy of proposed design or to better identify the problem space.
- Mentoring design peers on the specifics of designing for iOS and Android.

Who You Are
- You have a bachelor’s degree in human-computer interaction, management information systems, graphic design, or other design-related field; or 8+ years of equivalent work experience.
- You’ll have 4+ years of mobile app design experience
- You will have experience using or leveraging design, user research, web & behavior analytics as well as A/B and multivariate testing tools.
- You’ll have working knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards.
- You will have a desire to strive for the highest quality experience, through design critiques and collaboration.
- You’ll have excellent planning, organizational, problem-solving, analytical, decision-making and interpersonal skills.
- Some travel may be required, including overnight stays.
Successful candidate will have the following:
- Certified User Analyst (CUA) or Certified User Experience Analyst (CXA) certifications – nice to have.
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range
$77400 – $147600 / year
