The Team & Role

Zuora is seeking a financial professional with a strong accounting and reporting background. The ideal candidate will have experience with a broad set of accounting topics applicable to a mid-sized public company, and experience in preparing and reviewing financial statements, quarterly and annual SEC filings, analyzing and assembling complex financial information, and writing technical accounting memos. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Technical Accounting, the candidate will help to provide guidance on technical accounting matters and will support the earnings and SEC filing process. The candidate will also work closely with our external auditors at KPMG. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, works well independently and is able to adapt to new systems and processes. This is an individual contributor who excels at collaborating with a broad set of leaders across finance, accounting, legal, engineering and corporate operations. .

This is a hybrid position, so you’ll work both remotely and in the office. We encourage you to come to the office for company functions and team events and to build strong working relationships with other local team members, but we don’t require being in the office a set number of days per week.

What you’ll do

  • Participate in complex accounting topics, including:
    • Research new and existing accounting standards, regulations, and industry best practices relevant to software companies.
    • Analyze accounting issues, assess their impact on our financial statements, and recommend appropriate accounting treatment to support business decisions and financial reporting accuracy.
    • Participate in cross-functional projects related to technical accounting matters, such as capitalized software, lease accounting, and stock-based compensation.
    • Develop and maintain accounting policies and memos, including our capitalized software policy memo, annual goodwill impairment assessment memo, quarterly long-lived assets impairment memo, non-GAAP policies memo, segment reporting memo, and evaluation of the amortization period for capitalized contract costs.
    • Assist with the accounting and reporting for acquisitions, including supporting the finance team in due diligence activities and assessing the accounting implications of M&A activities.
  • Assist with SEC reporting compliance, including:
    • Prepare our consolidated financial statements and flux analyses.
    • Oversee the preparation of SEC filings (earnings releases, 10-Qs, and 10-Ks), ensuring compliance with SEC regulations.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather necessary information and disclosures for timely and accurate reporting.
    • Prepare tie outs, and explore methods to build efficiencies in our current tie out process.
    • Coordinate with external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits, addressing inquiries and resolving accounting issues.
  • Implement controls and procedures to ensure the integrity of financial reporting and compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Other ad-hoc assignments that may arise.

Your experience

  • 4+ years of accounting experience including a Big 4 CPA firm, or U.S. publicly traded company in a similar role
  • Bachelor’s degree (accounting or business administration)
  • Broad understanding of technical accounting topics under U.S. GAAP
  • Accounting project management experience
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally
  • Experience with SEC reporting requirements
  • Self-driven, extremely reliable, delivers high quality work and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail, and a track record of managing multiple priorities and TRAVEL”>meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong Excel and Google Sheets experience

Nice to haves:

  • CPA license or license is in process
  • Public company financial reporting experience
  • Experience using NetSuite, Blackline, Workiva or similar software
