About Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

The SEO team’s mission is to make Airbnb the most visible and best destination for search engine users. We build world-class products that excite and attract guests, along with the tools and platform that enable teams across the company to do the same. We do this at an incredible scale, promoting hundreds of thousands of destinations and experiences spanning a broad range of languages and international locales. What We Work On

To realize its vision, the SEO team has a diverse end-to-end tech stack that focuses on four areas – web pages, the platform to build them, content recommendation systems, and company-wide SEO tools.

Several examples of the tech we own and build:

  • Numerous product page types, scaling to millions of unique pages worldwide. Some examples are Unique Stay Cabins in the United States, Things to Do in San Francisco, Vacation Rentals in Seattle, and Beach Rentals in the United Kingdom, with plenty more new types in the pipeline.
  • A performant end-to-end web page building platform consisting of a frontend rendering system with composable sections and components, and a backend made up of several services built on our declarative parallelizing engine.
  • Offline content recommendation pipelines that analyze hundreds of thousands of search terms, semantically relating them and programmatically surfacing the most relevant content.
  • Automated performance monitoring systems to ensure we maintain industry-leading page speed.
  • Bot understanding tools that track search engine bot behavior, crawl our site, and identify areas of opportunity for improvement.

About the Role

We’re looking for talented backend engineers who can architect and develop performant distributed systems at scale, spanning a multitude of responsibilities. Some systems directly power externally facing products, while others monitor performance, bot behavior, and content recommendation. As a backend engineer on the team, you’ll be responsible for designing and developing our services and pipelines. You’ll shape the architecture and direction of our infrastructure, partnering and working closely with engineering teams from across the company.

Minimum Requirements

  • 8+ years of industry experience on large scale systems
  • Proficiency in one or more backend server languages (Java/Ruby/Go/C++/etc.)
  • Experience designing, building, and iterating on performant and robust distributed systems with operational practices to ensure high reliability
  • A track record of leading engineering project teams and working with cross functional partners to deliver technical solutions that achieve team and organizational goals

The Location

This position is US – Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. The Pay

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base pay for this role is between $190,000 and $245,000. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
