Company Overview
At Motorola Solutions, we believe that everything starts with safety. It’s the constant that empowers people to confidently move forward. It can fill a flight or sell out a stadium. It can care for a patient or graduate a class.
As a global leader in public safety and enterprise security, we create and connect the technologies that help to keep people safe where they live, learn, work and play. Our integrated technology ecosystem unifies critical communications, video security and access control, and command center software, enabling collaboration in more powerful ways.
At Motorola Solutions, we’re ushering in a new era in public safety and security. Bring your passion, potential and talents to a career that matters.
Department Overview
The UX research team at Motorola Solutions works closely with stakeholders across the organization to envision the future of public safety & video security technology, while bringing to market real-world solutions today. Our team directly supports the design and development of software across the public safety workflow. We do this through understanding the unique needs and challenges of our customers in mission critical situations through immersive ethnographic research and through rigorous evaluation of design throughout the product development process.
We value:
- Insatiable Curiosity- Someone always on the pursuit of new ideas & asking “what if…”
- Humility– Someone with no ego. There is no ivory tower of research & design. The only thing we own is a responsibility to inspire with our work.
- Diversity of thought- We create safe spaces for diversity of thought, background & culture and we fill them with people who inspire each other in different ways.
- A sense of urgency- Our products provide critical information to our customers in the moments that matter.
- Inclusivity- We invite everyone into our UX sandbox because business success and great design require thinking as well as collaboration
- Stewardship- Great design implemented poorly is bad design. Design, product roadmaps and directional decisions cannot be done without data. We’re responsible for ensuring our partners have the insights to create the best experience for our customers.
- Humor & good spirit- We take our work seriously, but not always ourselves. We work hard and have fun with it at every opportunity.
Job Description
We are looking for a senior human factors engineer who can advise on human factors best practices as well as design and execute research studies for mission critical software applications to test the efficacy of the applications and to improve the safety of software products for our users and the communities they serve. You will be hands-on with the research, including design, scheduling, and execution of human factors research studies, including remote and in-context research.
You will directly manage a small team of researchers, and as a human factors expert, the UX research team will look to you for mentorship as they develop their usability and quantitative research practice. Our team is distributed across the United States and Europe and our team works to cultivate our team culture in a virtual environment. Senior researchers are expected to participate in culture development and model our team values to create a positive, fun, and generative work environment.
We work closely with teams across the organization to understand research objectives, business priorities, as well as the platform, architecture and manufacturing constraints in order to design studies that deliver actionable insight. The ability to develop collaborative relationships with partners in design, product, and engineering is essential.

- At least 2 years of experience directly managing junior researchers
- Proficiency in the diverse toolkit of user experience research, including qualitative and quantitative approaches such as heuristic analysis, survey research, moderating focus groups, in-depth interviews, concept and prototype testing and usability testing.
