What will you do?
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Software Engineer with 8+ years of industry expertise to join our dynamic team. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for driving the development, maintenance and innovation of a robust. modern highly accessible design system. Your focus will be acting as a technical powerhouse supporting this and other teams, delivering enhancements to the design system. You will utilize your expertise in various technologies, including modern HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Web components, developer build tools, code versioning (git), and CI/CD.

- Participate in client events and forums to positively represent the organization and develop and maintain relationships with the industry.
- As appropriate, play an active role in new client acquisition by supporting business development initiatives to enhance and grow Bixal’s business in each of the areas that it works.
Responsibilities
- Implement, test and maintain responsive websites that are fast, accessible, and work well on a variety of devices .
- Write clean, well-engineered code that conforms to engineering principles (SOLID, DRY, KISS).
- Create, improve and use wireframes, prototypes, user flows and design compositions to effectively communicate interaction ideas.
- Collaborate with others to ensure designs are aligned with usability, accessibility, and web standards.
- Work collaboratively with Bixal’s project teams and client stakeholders to understand and document their needs, schedules, timelines, etc.
- Participate in the estimation and planning of iterative/agile releases.
- Ensure code meets all Federal regulatory guidance, including 508 and current web content accessibility guidelines (WCAG).
- Facilitate and document troubleshooting of software applications/configurations.
- Interact with team and USWDS community to gather, define and analyze requirements to determine the most effective solution.
- Problem solving skills and implementing effective solutions.
- Demonstrate thought leadership for internal teams and the community.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 8+ years of years of demonstrated experience in web design and development including mobile and responsive design with 10+ years of collective professional work experience .
- Ability to undergo and pass a public trust clearance.
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working and/or contributing to open source.
- Proficiency in writing high quality and modern HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript for a variety of content management systems and frameworks.
- Experience in all aspects of the software development lifecycle, including design, functional and technical requirements, coding, debugging, testing, CI/CD, and release.
- Experience with Agile Software Development Methodology.
- Experience with software development best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Experience with Developer/Build tools like Gulp, Webpack, Rollup, and Vite.
- Firm understanding of component-based design and development for design systems.
- Well-rounded knowledge of GIT version control and tools.
- Ability to come up with innovative solutions to complex problems.
- Working knowledge and hands-on experience with current technologies and web development tools, including Design Systems, JavaScript Frameworks, and Web Services.
- High usability/accessibility standards to produce code compliant for Section 508 accessibility (may have access to development tools that aid in this process).
