This position is a hybrid role requiring employees to work from our headquarters location in Seattle, WA every Tuesday and Wednesday, and remote all other days.
Redfin is currently seeking a contract based Sr Site Reliability Engineer on our Production Engineering team to help expand and support our Kubernetes and monolith production environments. This engineer will help Redfin teams who are creating new services and perform operational duties across all our environments.
This is a 6 month W2 Contract which ideally will be based in the Seattle area and work on a hybrid basis with Tuesday and Wednesday in office. For well qualified candidates currently in the US but outside of the Seattle area, we may be able to consider a fully remote schedule.
The Role
- Support and expand the Kubernetes platform for our distributed services
- Support and improve our Kubernetes tooling like ArgoCD, Istio, and Karpenter
- Diagnose and debug our monolith infrastructure, running in AWS, using tools like terraform and puppet
- Understand current tech debt challenges and be able to identify, present, and undertake solutions to address these issues
- Understand trends happening elsewhere in the industry and support their application to the team and Redfin as a whole
- Collaborate with the team on efficiency improvements and cross sharing of knowledge and skills
- Help drive our mission to radically change the way people make one of the biggest decisions of their lives.
- Participate in the team’s on call rotation supporting both the Kubernetes environment and the monolith running in AWS</span>
Required Skills and Experience
- 5+ years of experience in Software or Systems Development
- Expertise in designing, analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
- Ability to engage in complex technical discussions with a variety of audiences, including Software and Systems Engineers, and Senior Management
- Experience running Kubernetes clusters in large-scale environments
- 2+ Years experience with AWS services
- Experience with CloudFormation or Terraform
- Expert level development skills in at least one language (e.g. Python, Java)
- Ability to consult with other teams on system design and capacity planning
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience
Desired Qualifications
- Kubernetes Service Mesh experience
- Networking knowledge in distributed systems
- Experience in web application, network, or operating system security
