Senior Manager, IT Project Office

Location: Exton, PA, US

Location: Remote, US-based (PA/East Coast preferred)

Position Summary:

Bentley is embarking on a transformational journey to modernize business systems used across all business groups, to upscale our user experience and processes across the enterprise. The Office of the CDO is focused on partnering with our stakeholders to deliver world-class enterprise applications focused on streamlining our processes and user experience. To compliment this effort, the team is seeking a Senior Manager, IT Project Office with experience managing a team of talented project managers across a wide range of project types, plus setting the project management process standards as well as managing the project in-take process and negotiating priorities across the project portfolio.

As an arm of the overall governance function, the manager shall be responsible for supporting and enabling the organization’s projects, programs, and structured work efforts. The manager would ensure that the work of the PMO adds value and is relevant to the strategy of the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of complex projects and programs of varying sizes that span multiple business units
  • Provide leadership for Project Office team by building and motivating team members to meet project goals, adhering to their responsibilities, project management processes and project milestones—including ongoing coaching and mentoring of project and program managers to strengthen their abilities and skill sets.
  • Understand and apply SDLC methodologies including Waterfall, Agile, Scrum, Kanban, Lean, & Prince2
  • Leads the identification and implementation of best-practice project and program management processes, methods, tools, guidelines, and standards to establish a stable framework that supports all project teams and stakeholders to improve the probability of successful project delivery
  • Regularly reviews and evaluates opportunities to improve the project management best practices to achieve higher maturity in PPM
  • Builds and maintains relationships with senior leadership and key PMO stakeholders, and acts as a trusted advisor
  • Ownership of the project in-take process, and providing the needed information to help drive the decision-making process for project capacity and prioritization
  • Facilitate business group relationship management between business groups and the IT Project Management Office (in conjunction with assigned Senior Project Managers).
  • Makes decisions and recommendations clearly linked to the organization’s strategy and financial goals, reflecting an awareness of external dynamics
  • Support project managers assigned to lead vender evaluation, selection, and budget approval processes.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree (Computer Sciences preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • PMP or equivalent certification preferred
  • Fifteen or more years of experience in IT and business/industry
  • 10+ years of direct IT project management experience.
  • Five to seven years of leadership responsibilities with demonstrated experience in leading diverse teams
  • Established competence in multiple project management methodologies. Waterfall, Agile, Scrum, Kanban, Lean, & Prince2–plus be able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each and apply the appropriate methodology to ensure the success of their project.
  • Experience working with a variety of PPM tools such as Project Online, Azure Dev Ops and others.
  • Understands the (SDLC) Software Development Lifecycle & IT Operations workflows and processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain IT concepts and technologies to business leaders, and business concepts to the PMO staff.
  • Program management skills and experience, plus significant knowledge of project planning tools with evidence of practical application (which is highly desirable).
  • Deep understanding of current and emerging technologies and how other enterprises are employing them to drive digital business.
  • Requires sitting or standing at will while performing work on a computer (or any other physical requirements). The role requires communication with managers, peers, and other colleagues of the company in person, and by utilizing Microsoft Teams chat, calling, and meeting functions
  • This role does not require travel
