Sr Manager, Engineering (eCommerce)

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Engineering to join the eCommerce Engineering team at eHealth. This role will help lead efforts to deliver the company’s next-generation eCommerce experience. The eCommerce experience team delivers consistent, high quality and intuitive user experience across multiple surfaces. This team develops essential pillars of the eCommerce experience – unified schema using backend-for-frontend pattern, a modern component library and style library that’s part of an organization-wide design system. Using Backend-for-frontend patterns implemented using GraphQL, this team delivers a modern and extremely flexible network layer for frontend to integrate with. Component library and style library enables delivery of high quality, consistent experience at scale. This team also establishes best practices, standards, and patterns for frontend development. The scope of this role includes multiple product areas – tools, shopping, and customer center.

You have proven industry experience in software design and development. You are a solution-centric, results-oriented, and experienced Engineering leader. You will lead other engineers, architects, and cross functional teams in a collaborative environment to improve the overall quality while achieving timely delivery of projects and in a manner that champions eHealth’s culture. You have in-depth technical background and proven industry experience in software architecture, design, development, and testing. You are ambitious, talented, and driven to make the team and project successful.
Responsibilities
- Being a hands-on manager, you will be responsible for both technical (60) and management (40) duties
- Maintain a value oriented and business driven approach to project prioritization and resourcing
- Collaborate effectively across teams and key stakeholders including Product Management, Product UX Design, Infrastructure, Business, other engineering teams
- Provide technical direction to software engineers, ensuring timely, quality design and implementation of applications, business logic
- Work with Application security and security compliance team to ensure application adheres to standards such as HIPAA
- Document architecture using technical design documents
- Enable and facilitate problem diagnosis and resolution in technical and functional areas
- Encourage change, particularly on the side of engineering best practices, developer experience, and process improvements
- Advance shift left for quality practices with activities such as unit testing
- Establish and maintain effective communications and working relationships with cross-functional teams
- Review the work of other engineers in a collegial fashion to promote growth, and to improve quality and engineering practices
- People responsibilities – conduct 1:1 meetings, providing feedback, promoting personal development, establishing goals, and plan for career growth
- Support production issues and lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) efforts
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years leading engineering teams
- 8 to 11 years of professional software engineering experience
- Experience in leading consumer facing engineering teams
- Experience using frontend technologies such as VueJS, ReactJS
- Experience in full stack JavaScript development
- Experience leading multiple projects concurrently
- Past experience as a lead engineer working in a scrum team
- Technical skills: JavaScript programming, algorithmic thinking, data structures, Restful API, system architecture, TypeScript, component-based UI frameworks such as ReactJS, VueJS
- Basic understanding of AWS or other cloud infrastructures
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- BS/MS in Computer Science or related field
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with AB testing technologies
- Experience using GraphQL
- Experience with eCommerce business domain
- Experience of working with cross-functional team such as – marketing, partners, SEO, security etc.
- Experience with AWS cloud architecture and Postgres DB on AWS
- Experience with Spring Boot on AWS cloud and ExpressJS
- Ecommerce industry experience
