Senior Interaction Designer – Remote Indiana
Senior Interaction Designer
The Allegion Digital Product Design Team is seeking a Senior Interaction Designer to collaborate with a Cosmos software portfolio product team and help achieve our mission of transforming users into fans. The Senior Interaction Designer is responsible for working closely with product owners and technology leads to identify & understand user and business needs, help facilitate our design & delivery process, prepare design concepts, and collaboratively drive the user experience of our desktop and mobile applications.
What You Will Do:
- Participate in the creation of documentation created during the Discover phase, e.g. Experience Briefs, Problem Statements, Personas, and Journey Maps
- Lead design efforts during the Concept phase: define user flows and information architecture, prepare low-to-mid-fidelity design concepts (sketches, wireframes, prototypes) based on solution hypothesis
- Work with product owners to define long term product visions
- Provide estimates for design deliverables
- Actively participate in design reviews, critiquing the work of other designers, and collecting feedback on your own work
- Participate in Agile ceremonies with product teams (stand-ups, demos, retrospectives)
- Ensure product teams have any design documentation required to complete their work
- Work with teammates to prioritize product backlogs and your workload
- Portfolio depicting completed project work and specific examples of user flows, wireframes, site/app mapping, prototypes, and user interface designs (bonus points for telling the story of the user needs, success metrics, and what you learned along the way)
What You Need to Succeed:
- You have a passion for UX/Interaction design and creating user-centric design solutions
- You’re an experienced UX/Interaction designer with a track record of delivering successful desktop and mobile applications with agile teams
- You’re eager to work with a team of designers, product owners, and developers who have a passion for excellence (and like to have fun along the way)
- You bring an upbeat, positive attitude and enjoy working within an agile team to design innovative solutions that help enable business growth and improve customer satisfaction
- You’re action-oriented and understand that delivering functional software is the best way to validate our hypotheses
- BA/BS in a digital/interaction design, or related degree program (e.g. UX design, graphic design, computer science, human computer interaction, cognitive psychology) and/or at least 5+ years combo of experience & education
- Ability to quickly understand new business domains, and be creative & thoughtful about how to use design to improve business processes and solve user problems
- Ability to quickly prototype concepts that can be used to demonstrate design solutions internally as well as with end users
- Familiarity with Design Thinking principles
- Experience providing heuristic & usability evaluations
- Familiarity with a variety of digital design and prototyping methods & tools including but not limited to Adobe XD, Sketch, InVision, Figma, Framer-X, HTML/CSS, etc. (We primarily use Figma for interface design work)
- Project management skills, e.g. organization, time management, planning, negotiation
- Ability to identify user needs, generate solutions, and work within identified constraints
- Stay current with design tools, trends, and technology
- Solid grasp of programming concepts and how technology influences design & vice versa
- Graduate degree in a digital/interaction design, or related degree program (e.g. UX design, graphic design, computer science, human computer interaction, cognitive psychology)
- Familiarity with UX research methods including interviewing users and facilitating usability studies
- Experience with workshop & meeting facilitation
