Job Description

Title: Senior Engineering Manager

Location: US-Remote

What We’re Looking For:

We have come this far, educating 35M registered learners on edX.org, enabling them to advance their careers and their lives. As a testament to our team, our site scaled resiliently to support upsurges during Covid peaks:

Millions flocked to engage on our edX site, seeking quality courses for wisdom n’ insight.

No fret, no pains, tigers sprang to the rescue: hardware, MTTR, services scaled per review.

Our foundation supported growth 5x, so learners kept learning in those crucial times.

The challenge now is to take our success to the next level. With continued growth, we benefit to adopt SRE principles throughout the engineering organization: enabling delighted autonomous teams who innovate with a desirable flow at an acceptable quality. As the senior manager of the SRE team, you will influence the organizational culture making reliability a core principle for all business and engineering operations.

  • Use data and work with stakeholders to make informed decisions about priorities.
  • Partner with the open-source community to leverage their contributions and global perspectives.
  • Own the hosting infrastructure, managing its budget, vendor relationships, and security compliance.

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

  • 5+ years of software, SRE, or related experience in a customer-focused environment.
  • 3+ years successfully leading a team of 5-8 engineers or more.
  • Experience communicating with a variety of audiences, from engineers to upper management.
  • Commitment to modern SRE practices like infrastructure as code, error budgets, automation, etc.
  • Cloud infrastructure experience and familiarity with containerization and orchestration systems.
  • A desire to seize the growth opportunities edX can offer.

Other Attributes That Will Help You In This Role:

  • Coaching other leaders.
