Role Overview:
Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Design Systems Designer to lead the improvement and maintenance of our design system. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of design systems and will have experience working on systems of various levels of maturity and team sizes. They should have a proven track record of auditing and improving existing design systems, creating mobile-optimized versions of existing components, and facilitating team discussions to create buy-in. This candidate should also be an expert in using Figma and have a strong understanding of the technology modern design systems are built on. Lastly, the ideal candidate will be able to push our existing UI patterns to create more modern and intuitive interfaces across applications.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead the design and maintenance of our design systems to ensure consistency and quality across all products and platforms.
- Lead efforts to create templatize existing pages.
- Collaborate with product designers, engineers, and key stakeholders to identify areas for improvement in our current design systems and implement changes.
- Develop new components and design patterns based on best practices that create a best-in-class experience for our users.
- Develop and maintain a design system roadmap and vision that aligns with the organization’s product and design strategy.
- Create and maintain design system documentation, including guidelines, specifications, and usage instructions.
- Ensure design system accessibility and compliance with standards and guidelines.
- Establish and maintain design system governance and processes, including version control and release management.
- Train and mentor other designers and engineers on the use and best practices of the design system.
- Work with the engineering team to ensure design system components are integrated seamlessly into the codebase.
What You’ll Bring:
- 6+ years of experience in design systems, with a focus on improving existing systems.
- Expert in Figma and other design and prototyping tools.
- Experience working with systems of various levels of maturity and team sizes.
- Knowledge of engineering principles and experience working closely with engineers.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, facilitation, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with accessibility standards and mobile-responsive design.
- Portfolio demonstrating experience in design systems and component-based design.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in front-end development using React, Tailwind, and Tachyons.
- Familiarity with Storybook
- Experience with version control and release management systems.
