Title: Security Technical Spec – Sr. (Offensive Security Specialist)

*This position is located in Columbus, Ohio but may be eligible for remote home based as long as selected candidate is within AEP’s current operating territory (WV, VA, TN, AR, KY, TX, OH, IN, MI, OK, LA)*

  • Responsible for conducting moderately complex security assessments against a diverse set of technology and business systems.
  • Strong understanding of penetration testing methodologies and the technical aptitude to apply these methodologies in a diverse technology environment.
  • Ability to document complex technical findings and communicate them in both written and verbal forms to key system stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide actionable recommendations to help drive towards successful risk treatment of identified findings.

NOTE: This position will be filled at the experience and salary grade level commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate as compared to the minimum requirements stated below.

Note: The selected candidate for this position will work remotely and, though location is flexible, will require vetting and final approval prior to offer and/or start.

Security Technical Spec.:

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in computer science/cyber or related field;
  • Or Associate’s degree with 2 years of IT system administration/help desk work experience;
  • Or high school diploma/GED with 4 years IT system administration/help desk work experience;
  • Or graduation from an approved cyber security program; alternatively may have non-degree qualifications (such as hands-on demonstrated ability in a technical interview/assessment);

Experience:

  • 2 or more years of Information Technology related experience;
  • Or 1 or more years of cyber related military/government work experience (in addition to any experience identified above).

Security Technical Spec. Sr.:

Education:

  • or 2 or more years of cyber related military/government work experience (in addition to any experience identified above).

Additional Preferred Requirements:

  • General knowledge of all IT platforms like Workstations, Servers (Linux, Windows, AIX), Virtualization, Networking, Application Servers/Platforms, Databases
  • Scripting/coding experience in one or more of the following:
    • C#, JAVA, Python, GoLang, Powershell, Shell Scripting
  • Understanding of firewalls, proxies/WAFs, SIEM, endpoint security controls, and IDPS concepts
  • Good communication and documentation skills, with attention to detail

Three or more years of Cyber Security or IT related security technical experience (in addition to any experience identified above).

  • Demonstrable experience in one or more of the following disciplines:
    • Network Penetration Testing
    • Web Application / Web Service Penetration Testing
    • Application Development and Testing
    • Vulnerability Assessment
    • Network or Application Security Operations and Administration
    • Incident Response
