Security Monitoring Engineer

We are looking for a Security Monitoring Engineer to join the Security Assurance & Response Team who will be responsible for helping to ensure we provide a secure edge for one of the biggest online platforms in the world.

You will be responsible for ensuring proper security monitoring is in place, and responding to security events. You will also design, follow, and test security alerts and runbooks while learning new technologies and evolving the security monitoring and response capabilities that keep our services secure.

You will be supported by a friendly security team, where you can learn and develop. We check our egos at the door. You’ll make sure our customers benefit from services built to the highest security standards in the industry.

What You’ll Do

  • Define and analyze security telemetry, ensuring that monitoring and alerting have appropriate coverage and capability
  • Produce accurate and actionable threat detection rules for both host and network-based threats
  • Drive improvements in Security tooling including: strategy, tuning, correlation, alerting, and reporting
  • Participate in on-call rotations and blameless retrospectives
  • Execute security incident response investigations as IMOC or as SME
  • Respond to triaged security alerts and incidents

What We’re Looking For

  • Attention to detail and a desire to automate repeated tasks
  • Experience using Splunk as well as developing, maintaining, and tuning Splunk content (dashboards, alerts, etc.)
  • Understanding of the Linux Operating System and Linux Kernel
  • Experience in operating security monitoring infrastructure or threat hunting tools
  • Experience leading security incidents of all levels
  • Experience communicating technicals details across all levels of the organization
  • Experience with cloud environments and technologies

We value a variety of voices, so this is not a laundry list. It would be an added bonus if you have experience in ANY of these:

  • Experience planning, conducting and documenting threat hunting engagements and providing recommendations based on the findings
  • Security certifications like GCIA, GCIH, OSCP, etc

In accordance with applicable law, Fastly’s minimum base pay for this role if hired in Colorado is $77,000 per year. Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity plan. Final offer amount will be at the company’s sole discretion and determined by multiple factors, including years and depth of experience and expertise, location and other business considerations. Note that this role is available to candidates outside of Colorado and different minimum compensation may apply.
