The Opportunity

Ulteig is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Principal Construction Manager. The Principal Construction Manager is responsible for the development and delivery of Ulteigs Construction Management program, encompassing all details of a construction project, key stakeholders and Ulteig personnel assigned to the project. The Principal Construction Managers duties will include management and development of other construction inspection and management staff, support or field office-based project work, coordination with clients and business partners, business development activities, resource coordination with technical managers, and management of project financial targets and goals.

This position is focused on large-scale (>$100 million) heavy civil infrastructure construction projects related to transportation, bridges, rail, structures, channels, dams, and/or utilities.

What You Will Do

Project Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of the Quality Control Plan for multidisciplinary heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • Manage the project budget per the project requirements for staffing by tracking weekly and monthly burn rates while also forecasting projections.
  • Overseeing invoicing.
  • Manage project staffing and track weekly hours. This includes the schedule for both inspectors and testing of all onsite activities.
  • Manage a blended team of inspectors, testers, project engineers, project controls, and subconsultants to effectively serve the client and satisfy the contract obligations.
  • Manage and develop standard operating procedures for equipment, software, and documentation processes to satisfy the project and ensure quality and consistency from project team.
  • Leads all necessary project meetings.
  • Coordinate with the Construction Team and Operations and Maintenance on quality control requirements.
  • Ensures the project documentation is accurate, compliant, and complete per the project contract requirements. Project documentation can include reviewing Daily Inspection Reports, checklists, and testing forms per the Quality Management Plan.
  • Responsible for the compliance of construction activities with the technical requirements, project agreement, construction drawings, specifications, RFIs and shop drawings and submittals.
  • Develops daily reports to track key performance indicators for project records, testing logs, non-conformance events, and deficiency logs.
  • Manage documents and participate in the preparatory, initial, and follow-up phase for all construction activities.
  • Manage all testing plans and logs including rework and resolution with quality control team. Determines and tracks non-compliance of testing and inspection results per the specification and drawings.
  • Prepare or assist with inspection testing plans, punch lists, coordination efforts with quality assurance, checklists, daily reports, or modifications to the Quality Control Plan.
  • Assist and comply with materials receiving procedures on the construction site and offsite inspections. Manage third party agencies if necessary.

Business Development Responsibilities

  • Develop and expand Ulteigs QCM/Alternative Delivery services across the United States.
  • Participate and partner with members of the Market team and engineers throughout the organization to promote revenue growth and expansion of services with existing and prospective clients.
  • Support response to RFP efforts by developing, providing resources, and reviewing proposals by working with the Proposal Development Team and others as required.
  • Promote positive client relations with existing clients.

What We Expect from You

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management.
  • Licensed Profession Engineer; preferably with an updated NCEES record.
  • Minimum of 20 years of DOT, Federal, Contractor, Joint Venture, or P3 construction experience.
  • Preferred experience with working with utility companies and Railroads.
  • Must adhere to Ulteigs Safety requirements and those practices and polices required by the construction project or the client, and OSHA.
  • Proficiency in software such as ArcGIS Survey 123 & QestLAB and document control software such as Aconex and Procore.
  • OSHA 30 and eRailsafe preferred.
  • Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, OneNote, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, PowerPoint, and Project).
  • Ability to lead through influence.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills.
  • Show strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, public and external agencies.
  • Excellent presentation and verbal/written communications skills.
  • Elevated level of initiative and demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with clear expectations and highly responsive to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Required to relocate with the project opportunity.
  • Must have valid drivers license.
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the US.
