Software Development at Abarca Health houses a truly innovative team: software, systems, architecture, and automation engineers! They design, build, code, test and automate it? Then we got them on this team! Software Engineering manages the development of our suite of tech products to ensure all pharmacy benefit management services are up to date and bring the best quality of service our clients need.
As a Software Engineering Manager, you’ll direct management of software engineers, strategic planning, product definition, managing operational challenges at scale, project management for software within the team, and quality of the software development process in an agile environment. Also, you will be responsible to organize the teams and the organization on how to use Agile Scrum practices and values to the delight of all our customers here at Abarca. Additionally, as our organization is growing, hiring top-notch engineers will be a key focus. In other words, you’ll get to pick incoming new players before they can join the adventure.
The fundamentals for the job
- Providing technical leadership, guidance, and support in the development and deployment of complex mobile and hosted web applications.
- Assisting in the definition of product requirements and for the creation of high-level architectural specifications, ensuring feasibility, functionality, and integration with existing systems and services.
- Balancing the creation of value with the management of risk through design.
- Taking an active role in cross departmental projects when needed.
- Guide and mentor engineers. Coaching is a key part of every single team, as Software Engineering Manager and Scrum Master, you will bring the best in others as a team contributor and servant leader.
- Researching, investigating, and staying at the forefront of technology (Software Development, Hardware, Programming Languages, etc.)
- Directing research on emerging applications’ software development products, languages, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
- Collaborate Product Managers, Business System Analysts, Software Engineers, Testers and users to understand Business and Client needs and create optimal software and technology solutions to address those needs.
What we expect of you
The bold requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline. (In lieu of a degree, equivalent, relevant work experience may be considered.)
- 8+ years of experience managing software engineers, specifically as part of an agile development environment.
- Experience leading multiple engineering teams (Previous Dungeon Master experience preferred.)
- Experience with OO programming in C# or Java, MVC web applications (ASP.NET MVC, AngularJS and Bootstrap).
- Experience with relational and non-relational data (SQL and SQL Server as well).
- Experience in other Agile practices such as Extreme Programming (XP), Kanban, Crystal, FDD and others.
- Experience with Agile techniques, such as User Stories, Automated Test-Driven Development (ATDD), Test-Driven Development (TDD), Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Testing (CT), Continuous Development (CD), Pairing, Automated Testing and Agile Games.
- Experience with implementation of Scrum Methodology from Waterfall on a software development organization.
- Experience leading delivery of working software while collaborating with end users. Show us the footprints!
- Established (like petroglyphs) expertise in developer tools or software development lifecycle (SDLC) systems (continuous integration, version control, source code repositories, build systems, package management, deployment tools, test frameworks, etc.)
- Experience with professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle including.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice to haves
- Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS).
- Experience with pharmacy benefit management, claims adjudication and/or healthcare.
