The Opportunity:

You will work closely with the Product Design/User Experience team, Product leads, engineers, and executives in the development of critical TrueCar products. You will have influence on the direction of major company objectives and be expected to solve difficult design problems, cross-platform. You’ll manage an inspired team of mobile-first designers who understand the complexities of desktop and mobile app solutions. You are a humble hands-on design leader and have the ability to translate your vision into beautiful designs and functional prototypes to demonstrate ideas and interactions.

How you will contribute to TrueCar’s success:

  • Manage and oversee a team of user experience designers and work on multiple projects with rapid development deadlines
  • Collaborate with executives, managers, product managers, engineers, and researchers to define, conceptualize, and design user-facing products
  • Champion user experience design throughout the company and contribute to making it an essential process for improvement and innovation
  • Support Product Leads, engineers, executives, etc. to develop compelling user experiences from beginning to end
  • Actively recruit, interview, and hire new team members
  • Onboard and train UX Designers; staff and/or contract
  • Manage performance evaluations, including self-evaluations and peer feedback surveys
  • Foster improvement of the user experience across our product suite
  • Supervise and design, component, and brand standards across the UX team
  • Seek out and discover valuable learnings and insights that help define and drive opportunities to improve process efficiencies
  • Translate business goals and requirements into effective digital experiences that help customers
  • Develop, apply, and help oversee user research findings to enable designers to conduct usability validation and A/B testing
  • Work closely with other cross-functional stakeholders such as Product Managers and Development teams to deliver to sprint-estimated expectation
  • Give and solicit feedback from other designers, stakeholders, and users to continually raise the quality of our designs
  • Keep current with advances in interaction and contemporary design patterns

Your Expertise:

  • Deep understanding of desktop design, including responsive and adaptive techniques
  • Strong organization and analytic thinking skills: ability to translate moderately complex requirements into user scenarios, flows and diagrams
  • Proven track record of collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and 5+ years of experience in a related field
  • Self-motivated and passionate about solving complex problems
  • Internalize and care about the company strategy and vision, not just how things look
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to defend design decisions
  • Understand design methodologies such as Agile, Design Thinking, Lean UX
  • Expert in Figma and experience with design systems
  • Proficient in prototyping tools including but not limited to: Figma, Sketch+InVision
  • A solid understanding of both quantitative and qualitative user research methods; familiar with research products (usertesting.com, usabilityhub.com, FullStory)
  • Support occasional travel as requested
  • Experience in data-driven analytics capabilities
  • Experience presenting to and influencing senior management
