Job Description

The Lead UX Designer is responsible for bringing this mission to life by empathizing with the needs and behaviors of students and educators and innovating solutions for them through design. The ideal candidate has expertise in both interaction and visual design. He/She will thrive in a dynamic work environment that requires strong problem-solving skills and independent self-direction, coupled with an aptitude for team collaboration and open communication with UX Researchers, Product Owners, Product Managers, and Engineers. Teams will rely on the Lead UX Designer to design magic moments into our products that delight educators and students because they are usable, accessible, and intuitively solve their problems.

In this role, you will:

  • Takes a leadership role with design, engineering and product management team members in the execution and delivery of successful products and services, using a customer-focused, iterative design process.
  • Actively works to help the team accomplish goals by contributing to planning and estimating work, participating in broader work stream coordination and expectation setting.
  • Creates high quality deliverables and executes based on UX goals and priorities while helping the team accomplish goals and sharing information across the team and organization.
  • Works as a strategic partner with the UX research team to identify and recommend the best methods to answer product questions, including product discovery and design session facilitation. Creates prototypes and other artifacts to facilitate the research sessions and iterates on designs based on research insights.
  • Proactively leverages, fosters and extends the use of established UX techniques, templates, presentations, and assets in the creation of UX analysis, solutions, and materials.
  • Contributes to the adaptation of Renaissance UX tools, methodology, and software, and proposes new solutions or optimizes existing ones for advanced, complex problems.
  • Formally mentors more junior UX designers in best practices, process and methodology.
  • Master of the UX lifecycle with deep, direct experience in all skill areas and tools, including facilitation of workshops or other collaboration techniques to drive momentum and credibility within the organization.
  • Thorough knowledge of key channels and platforms, with experience in mobile, portable, dedicated, web, and native solution design.
  • Helps create a team and tribe environment that promotes success, manages conflict appropriately and allows for open and honest dialogue.
  • Is recognized externally as a thought leader in the field, presenting innovative ideas through publications and speaking engagements
  • Works collaboratively and communicates effectively with peers and managers

Qualifications

For this role, you must have:

  • General awareness of technology mediums (Javascript, HTML/CSS, etc.) to help facilitate expanded productive collaboration with front-end engineers.
  • Deep understanding of design research methods to uncover customer insights.
  • Experience with resources such as pattern library, repositories, and internal communication tools
  • Experience in an Agile environment or juggling multiple projects, deadlines, teams and/or clients
  • 8-10 years of experience in digital product design.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree in the study of Design, Information Architecture, Human Factors or related field, or equivalent project/portfolio experience.

Salary Range – $116,900 – $175,400 This range is based on national market data and may vary by location.
