We are currently looking for an Instructional Designer to join us in our mission to save lives and prevent injuries.

Position Highlights:

The primary purpose of the Instructional Designer is to bridge the gap between training ideas from the business and instructional design resulting in effective learning programs. To do this one must bring knowledge of learning theory, design, development, and performance analytics.

The Instructional Designer brings instructional design skills to training development but is also a strategic partner dedicated to helping the Director, Learning & Product Development design a comprehensive approach to leading-edge adult learning models, product types, and modalities that are efficient and resonate in the safety-training marketplace. The Instructional Designer is a problem solver, with strong consulting and project management skills, a skilled communicator with a flexible and agile approach, and a strategic thinker that can envision and oversee the creation of broader learning programs.

What You’ll Do:

Instructional Design & Development (60%):

  • Design and develop interactive, engaging, and visually compelling learning content for Instructor-Led courses, Virtual Instructor-Led courses, eLearning’s, and also hybrid blended solutions
  • Provide oversight of (external contractor/vendor) instructional design resources to assess compliance with the learning product goals and the NSC standards
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to understand the necessary learning outcomes and advise on appropriate learning solutions
  • Refine learning outcomes based on adult learning theories and design appropriate learning content for the audience
  • Design instructional graphics, the user interface, and the finished product to ensure it meets the NSC high-quality standards
  • Continually research and apply best practices in learning technologies and instructional design to ensure NSC is providing world-class instruction
  • Design supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games etc.)
  • Devise modes of assessment, such as tests or quizzes to track learner progress, and evaluations to measure the effectiveness of the course
  • Leverage a variety of instructional design techniques and approaches best suited to each project e.g. ADDIE, Kirkpatrick, Blooms, 5e
  • Oversee development to ensure that the course design is being correctly implemented throughout the development process

LMS/Technology Administration (20%):

  • Assist the LMS Administrator with loading, configuring, and troubleshooting courses
  • Assist the LMS Administrator with internal customer inquiries about our courses
  • Serve as an SME/Administrator for virtual learning technologies and/or other technologies needed for learning activities such as PollEverwhere, Webex, and Vitalsource
  • In collaboration with the L&D Product Managers, ensure all source files, course files, and templates are organized and in working condition

Learning Strategy & Innovation (20%)

  • Evaluate and assimilate new learning theories, approaches, and technology into NSC’s portfolio of learning product types
  • Design, build and test prototype learning products with an eye to expanding NSC’s marketable offerings
  • Represent NSC as a learning expert in a variety of settings including regularly updating our Chapter partners on trends and our future direction
  • Provide educational expertise to cross-functional teams exploring new business opportunities that contain an educational component
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on the design of new products

We’re Looking for Someone with:

  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design or education preferred
  • 3 5 years experience in Adult Education
  • 3 5 years with Articulate 360 Storyline
  • In-depth knowledge of the application of learning theories and instructional design models for adult education
  • Advanced experience in creating eLearning’s, Virtual-Led trainings, and other online content
  • Experience with various course authoring tools and associated learning technologies
  • Strong understanding of SCORM, xAPI, and LMS admin functionality
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio, and video scripts
  • Ability to interact with internal staff and external constituents
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and spreadsheet applications required
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong analytical ability and critical thinking skills needed to help solve problems and move products forward
  • This is a remote position
  • Salary range: $60,000 to $65,000

Preferred Experience:

  • 3 or more years with Adobe Create Cloud: Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier Pro, After Effects
  • 3 or more years of LMS experience with Learning Cart LMS or similar
  • Proficiency in SmartSheets or other project management tools
  • Basic understanding/editing of HTML and Javascript
  • Creating learning content for sale and available to the general public
  • Experience in the non-profit industry is also a plus
