The opportunity

TechnologyAdvice is looking for an Engineering Manager, Web to lead a team of web developers and engineers focused on building world-class, high-performance websites that drive our audience and business growth. This role is responsible for overseeing technical execution, fostering team development, and delivering scalable, lightning-fast web platforms across our portfolio of 30+ owned and operated sites.

In this role, you will be a key leader within a cross-functional product team, driving the growth and optimization of our websites by championing performance, scalability, Core Web Vitals, SEO technical excellence, and user experience best practices. You will bring deep experience managing websites for large publishers, understanding the complexities of balancing editorial, advertising, and technical priorities to create seamless customer experiences.

As a leader within the Engineering team, you will work closely with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to ensure our web platforms not only meet but exceed business objectives. You will set a high technical bar, mentor and grow your team, and foster a culture of accountability, speed, and innovation in a fast-paced, agile environment.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and manage a team of developers, ensuring high-quality execution of projects
  • Develop and implement technical strategies aligned with the Audience Technology roadmap
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the engineering team
  • Oversee the development, deployment, and maintenance of web applications and platforms, ensuring scalability, performance, reliability, and security
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including Product, Design, and Audience Development—to define technical requirements and priorities
  • Ensure adherence to coding standards, development best practices, and thorough technical documentation
  • Guide architectural decisions, conduct technical design reviews, and lead code reviews to maintain high engineering standards
  • Monitor and optimize website performance to ensure fast load times and exceptional user experiences
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation
  • Support the growth and development of team members through coaching, mentorship, and constructive feedback

Who you are

  • 5+ years of experience in web development and engineering, including at least 2 years in a managerial or leadership role
  • Proven success leading cross-functional development teams and delivering complex web projects
  • Demonstrated ownership of a portfolio of websites, including hands-on experience managing site migrations
  • Strong technical expertise in modern web technologies such as JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Node.js, and CMS-driven architectures; experience with frameworks like Next.js, Nuxt, or Astro is a plus
  • Proficient in working with APIs, headless CMS platforms, and cloud-based architectures (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
  • Experienced with WordPress APIs and headless CMS implementations
  • Experience in media, publishing, or managing high-traffic content platforms is preferred
  • Deep understanding of performance optimization, accessibility (WCAG), SEO best practices, and responsive design
  • Experience managing development workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile methodologies
  • Familiar with SSR, SSG, and composable architecture principles
  • Knowledgeable in conversion rate optimization (CRO) strategies and web analytics tools
