The Corporate Travel group builds business travel experience for business customers and their employees, catering to all of their travel needs and more, including additional travel admin controls and needs.

We’re looking for a software engineering manager to lead a new team with expertise and focus across mobile and web. This is a role with a unique mix of breadth and depth, requiring a deep understanding of multiple product lines and customer behavior. It is also a way to make a large impact on a fresh but key new component of Hopper’s growth.

As software engineering manager, you will work with your peers to start delivering key value for our customers, and grow an exceptional team around you to achieve even greater outcomes over the course of the next quarters.

Responsibilities

  • Grow and retain your team while setting high-performance standards
  • Collaborate closely with a team of engineers and technical product leaders to establish a long term vision, set objectives and build a technical roadmap
  • Own design, development and delivery of services ensuring a robust foundation for the platforms we are building
  • Ensure a highly available and resilient system and foster a culture of operational excellence
  • Coach individual contributors and technical leaders and grow them as technologists.
  • Be a trusted advisor to our technology leadership and your peers
  • Champion the Hopper Leadership Principles

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience delivering large-scale, robust microservice solutions. You will be responsible for design, implementation and operation of services critical to a large production system.
  • Experience managing front-end, back-end, and mobile engineers
  • A love for learning and teaching. This team has a large scope, you will have a lot to learn from and pass on to your team!
  • Experience growing and managing a team of highly autonomous software engineers. You will hire and lead exceptional and autonomous engineers and lead by building a strong shared understanding, context and alignment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Scala, Java or other JVM or functional programming languages AND/OR React – Do you have experience you can leverage to hit the ground running on the development tasks?
  • Domain knowledge on Air, Hotels or Rental car supply or eCommerce
  • Experience managing at least 8 engineers

Our Tech Stack

  • We have a microservice architecture with over 200+ services.
  • Mostly Scala on the backend with some Python (Scala experience would be a bonus, but is not required)
  • Our front-end is on React (Javascript/Typescript)
  • We host our services on Google Cloud.
  • We use things like Pub/Sub, GCP Big Query, Cloud SQL, Redis.
  • We are driven by data so Amplitude, Big Query and Datadog will be your buddies.
