About the Role
The Engineering Manager works independently and collaboratively to execute department activities and create forward thinking architecture. In this role, you will be responsible for facilitating day to day people management, creating success plans, coordinating with team leads to plan assignments, and providing input on the structure of engineering organization as a whole. As the Engineering Manager, your work will help support the continued growth of our fast-paced company. A-LIGN will depend on you as the Engineering Manager to support management, maintain accountability, and other responsibilities.
Reports to: VP of Engineering
Pay Classification: Full-Time, Exempt
Responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring that team members are able to meet work assignments and that they understand the priorities of those assignments
- Responsible for coordinating with leads on availability of team members as it relates to planning production go-live activities and support availability
- Facilitates 1:1s regularly with all team members, supporting their career development/progression
- Facilitates defining and prioritizing OKRs for team members
- Approves and facilitates team members moving between pods
- Facilitates day to day people management for team members, including managing time off requests, parental leave, and more
- Creates individualized training and success plans for team members as part of their ongoing development
- Evaluates team members’ readiness for promotion and prepares/executes a “gap plan” where needed
- Evaluates individual team members work arrangements and negotiates changes and accommodations with leaders where needed
- Provides feedback about gaps in engineering process to Functional lead
- Consumes telemetry from engineering systems to understand individual performance bottlenecks where they may exist
- Responsible for working with VP and detinning/modifying recruiting process where needed
- Responsible for managing the hiring process for engineering roles where needed
- Coordinates with internal and external TA to promote job postings on job boards, social networks and other online sources
- Actively recruits from online communities where desired candidates already participate/work
- Develops career path with team members early and looks to refine them over the course of a review period
- Conducts performance reviews with team members
- Participates/writes PIP plans where needed and executes them with HR
- Aids in job transition where needed
- Develops training plans with team members and holds them accountable to completion
- Provides input on the structure/definition of the engineering organization as a whole, as well as recommends organizational changes as deemed necessary
- Pairs engineers up with other talent where hands-on work is needed
