eLearning Education & Training Director (REMOTE)

Financial Beginnings (FB) was founded in 2005 with the mission to empower youth and adults to take control of their financial futures. FB is a national nonprofit consisting of state-based affiliates that provide FB’s financial education programming. Current independent affiliates operate in Oregon and Washington, chapter affiliates in California and Nebraska, and programming is provided nationally.

FB delivers financial education programming for students in kindergarten through adulthood. FB provides full-service programming, bringing together curricula rooted in best practices and national standards that are delivered by volunteers, many of whom are financial professionals, to learners at schools and community groups. Prior to the pandemic in 2020, FB served approximately 40,000 in-person learners annually. During the pandemic, FB also added online, self-paced LMS classes to meet the needs of virtual learners. We continue to see the value of this online learning platform and are looking to expand our offerings.

Candidate Profile

The current state of these unprecedented economic times brings a renewed focus to the importance of empowering individuals to be good stewards of their money and be prepared for hardships. eLearning requires different approaches and skills to delivering in-person education. For eLearning to work effectively, the content of the courses must be high quality and tailored to an interactive eLearning environment.

FB seeks an eLearning Education and Training Director to oversee the adaptation of FB’s programs into its existing Learning Management System (LMS), as well as devise a plan for and oversee the creation of online courses for employees, volunteers, and educators. This visionary and strategic individual will bring innovative ideas and a rich background in education and eLearning to the team.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the eLearning Education and Training Director will be responsible for staying abreast of current trends and effective practices in eLearning curriculum design, development, and implementation. The eLearning Education and Training Director will maintain the integrity of FB’s programming and have a passion for financial education.

Primary Responsibilities


  • Manage FB’s existing LMS that currently runs via the Totara platform
  • Lead the transition of FB’s current in-person programs into the LMS making sure to incorporate financial education standards and outcomes
  • Create online courses in the LMS and direct external eLearning contractors to ensure full project capacity when needed
  • Engage with subject matter and eLearning experts to identify new content that keeps programming contemporary and relevant
  • Lead the development of video content to be included in LMS courses
  • Utilize FB’s LMS to develop onboarding and professional development courses for staff, volunteers, and board members


  • Work with senior leadership to identify eLearning goals for students, volunteers, and team members
  • Manage eLearning and content-specific contractors to develop virtual programming
  • Oversee eLearning evaluation development and data collection

Skills, Education, and Qualifications


  • Educational background in eLearning, education, and/or related field of study
  • Management of production staff and/or contractors
  • Ability to write instructional text and supporting materials such as audio/video scripts
  • Excellent knowledge of eLearning theories and instructional design models across teen, young adult, and adult learners
  • Lesson and curriculum planning skills
  • Unwavering commitment to high standards and quality
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse populations
  • Comfortable working independently and as a member of a virtual team
  • High integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed


  • Instructional design certificate or degree
  • At least three years of instructional design experience
  • Experience as an instructor, teacher, or trainer
  • Financial education or human resources experience
  • Fluent in speaking and writing Spanish
  • Knowledge of the eLearning industry and how to monetize eLearning products

Status and Compensation

  • Status: Full-time, exempt
  • Salary range: $70,000 to $90,000
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 40 hours/week
  • Travel: Minimal and depending on proximity to home office in Portland, Oregon
  • 27 days of PTO; PTO includes all holiday, personal, vacation, and sick time

Many Financial Beginnings staff and teams work 100% remotely with those staff residing in Portland, OR working periodically in the Financial Beginnings office. Staff working 100% remotely are asked to visit the organization’s office at least once a year.
