Job Description

Data Engineer, Healthcare Pricing

Remote

The Role

We are looking for a Healthcare Pricing Data Engineer. Turquoise is built upon the pricing data we aggregate, making this role critical to our success. You will combine raw information from various sources to create a pristine data pipeline into our pricing analytics warehouse. If you are analytical, detail-oriented, skilled in turning messy data into clean data, and you possess a desire to impact healthcare’s broken payment infrastructure, we’d love to hear from you.

Below is a list of ideal qualifications for this position. Don’t meet every single one of them? That’s okay! Studies show that BIPOC, people with disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ folks hesitate to apply for a position unless they meet 100% of the qualifications listed. We encourage anyone to apply for all open roles. Building a truly diverse team is a challenge that we do not shy away from. Healthcare affects all people differently, but it significantly affects those in underserved communities. With a robust, diverse team, we are stronger and better equipped to change the future of healthcare for all.

In this role, you will:

  • Build solutions for ingesting large amounts of healthcare payments data – claims, contract rates and demographics data, to name a few.
  • Write and modify data ingestion scripts in Python to convert raw pricing data into clean, standardized data.
  • Explore and evaluate new data sources to incorporate into our product to improve our customer experience.
  • Modify and continue to improve our data warehouse.
  • Be a subject matter expert and internal thought leader for Turquoise Health’s price transparency, managed care rate benchmarking, and contract management data.
  • Help guide the data product roadmap with leadership.
  • Draft internal and external technical documentation.
  • Fluidly meet the sporadic daily tasks of a small, growing startup.

Requirements

  • Expertise in Python represented through 2+ years of job experience or equivalent (Python knowledge will be evaluated in a hands-on interview).
  • Skilled in SQL.
  • Extremely detail-oriented.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Team player with zero ego.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree, OR equivalent experience/knowledge. We are happy to work with strong candidates with non-traditional educational backgrounds.

Bonus

  • Enjoy turning messy data into clean data.
  • 1+ year(s) hospital/payer contracting experience and demonstrated current revenue cycle industry knowledge.
  • Basic familiarity with medical coding. E.g., understanding the differences between HCPCS/CPT and MS-DRG code classifications; understanding the difference between Facility and Professional fees.
  • Exposure to PostgreSQL databases and/or data warehousing products like Amazon Redshift.

Salary Range

The salary range for this full-time position is $150,000-$200,000. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level, and reflect the minimum and maximum salary across all US locations (they are location agnostic). Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. We will talk about compensation in our first conversation and be transparent throughout the process about which level we think is the best match for you in our organization. Please note that the salary range does not reflect total compensation, which includes base salary, benefits, and company stock options.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay with equity options
  • Stellar health care plan options (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Unlimited PTO
  • 401K + 4% Matching
  • Fully remote work + $750 work-from-home stipend + paid quarterly remote co-working weeks
