MillerKnoll, the parent company of Design Within Reach, Herman Miller, HAY, Knoll, Muuto, and Fully, is seeking a nimble and resourceful Copy Lead to write customer-centric copy for omni-channel marketing campaigns to support multiple brands in our retail portfolio. The writer should quickly understand and adapt the style, voice, and tone for each brand (always with the customer in mind) to marketing collateral for brand-level, promotional, and seasonal campaigns across all channels.
The Copy Lead collaborates with Art Directors, Designers, Marketing Managers, and Digital Marketing Managers. They report to the Creative Director, Editorial, MillerKnoll Retail.
Essential Functions
- The Copy Lead interprets and adapts information from vendors, merchandisers, and marketing leads to write compelling copy in the voice of the each of MillerKnoll Retail’s brands for the following outputs:
- Segmented email marketing collateral
- SEO-driven homepage, campaign page, landing page, and product page content for our eCommerce sites
- In-store signage
- Print collateral including direct-mail pieces
- Paid and organic social media
- Banner advertisements and affiliate campaigns
- Content marketing initiatives including blog articles
- Press and live event collateral
- Support Social Media Manager with copy for Pinterest boards and paid social media initiatives.
- Assist Public Relations Manager on press collateral and releases.
- Write instructional copy for assembly guides, material guides, and packaging.
- Update and adjust eCommerce page copy and meta descriptions on a quarterly basis (and as needed) to respond to SEO trends.
- Re-write existing product descriptions and additional eCommerce page content to support major website re-designs.
- Research, write, and update biographical information about our designers and collaborators.
- Organize and prioritize a high volume of work and coordinate with Project Management and Editorial Director to effectively meet deadlines.
Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, advertising or marketing (or comparable work experience).
- 5-7 years of advertising copy writing experience in retail.
- Digital-first perspective on retail with a solid understanding of eCommerce best practices.
- Portfolio demonstrating strategic and creative strength.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel and Office 365 with a working knowledge of the Mac OS and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience with database tools and content management systems. Airtable preferred.
- Knowledge of how copy relates to design, graphics, and typography.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style is preferred, but not required.
- Strong communicator. You will have extensive correspondence that relies on you being conversant in brand guidelines and terminology related to the home furnishings industry.
- Detail oriented: Keen ability to self-edit, fact-check, and proof copy to ensure grammatical correctness and technical quality.
- Knowledge of interior design, home furnishings, or interior architecture preferred.
