Reporting directly to the Director of Content Marketing, the Content Manager will oversee the production of written contentincluding blogs, webpages, advertising campaigns, brochures, etc.to support the strategic goals of six nonprofit colleges across the United States.

Responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the marketing communications teamincluding a writer, advertising copywriter, proofreader, and several freelancersthe ideal candidate will have an extensive background in creating content to achieve overall marketing objectives.

We are looking for someone who understands how content works within an marketing ecosystem that includes omnichannel efforts, including social media, website, SEO, SEM, email, editorial, video, digital advertising, and PR.

With a mix of data-driven strategy and project management, they will become a vital leader, finding innovative content solutions to achieve marketing objectives while ensuring deadlines are met. They will be flexible, innovative, creative and quick to learn.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop content strategies in partnership with key leaders and stakeholders to meet marketing goals
  • Utilizing a data-informed approach, analyze and synthesize research insights to inform the development of new content and auditing of existing content
  • Manage staff writers, proofreader, and freelancersassigning projects, overseeing the development of new content, and auditing of existing content
  • Collaborate with SEO agency partners to plan content and copy that can boost our brand presence and organic search rankings
  • Collaborate on content ideation and direction with writers to ensure a clear marketing objective and purpose is established ahead of research and writing
  • Maintaining editorial calendars and content matrices
  • Oversee magazine production process for digital and print publications, from story pitching to printing
  • Collaborate with design, web development, and other key partners on cross-functional creative projects
  • Manage and maintain content resources for team, including standards guides, style guide, brand briefs, etc.
  • Be a liaison with faculty and students at our partner colleges who are submitting content for our blogs or magazines for editing and approvals
  • Ensure content meets marketing objectives as well as standards in quality, compliance, and ethics
  • Write content when the need arises
  • Other duties and responsibilities as needed

Position Requirements:

  • Deep understanding of SEO, SEM, and digital marketing
  • Highly creative with an exceptional ability to write performance-driven content for a variety of purposes and placements, including advertising, Blogs, web pages, landing pages, feature stories, marketing collateral, etc.
  • Highly meticulous and able to oversee the production of error-free copy
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented with strong project management skills
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills in AP Style.
  • Highly imaginative problem solver when unexpected issues arise
  • Must be an extremely collaborative and positive team player who can build strong relationships across the marketing department
  • Flexible, versatile learner; open to changing priorities and managing multiple tasks simultaneously within compressed timeframes

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or greater in journalism, communications, marketing, or related concentration. Extensive job experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of content writing or marketing experience.
  • Prepared to have in-depth conversations about and show past examples of SEO best practices and writing content for performance.
  • Solid proficiency with MS Office and WordPress (or similar content management system).
  • Prior experience managing staff a plus.
  • Working understanding of design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.) a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform sedentary work.
  • Ability to operate office equipment including computer, printers, and phone.

Compensation & Benefits

This opportunity is budgeted at $70,000 – 80,000 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
