Job Description

Title: Content Design Lead

Location: United States

Remote – US

LaunchDarkly is looking for our very first Lead Content Designer to help make our current products more accessible, comprehensible, and human.

The way we speak to our customers through our product sets the groundwork for their initial and continued success. It’s a foundational and critical component of the experience design of the tools we build for the people who build software. The space is complex, but developers are humans and we need to speak to them with humanity, regardless of how technical their day job may be.

As the first Content Designer at LaunchDarkly, you’ll work across many teams and disciplines on product surface area that our customers directly engage with. This could mean anything from login and onboarding, to day-to-day use, to our developer UX. You’ll be part of the User Experience team and a close partner to product design and research.

You’ll also help us tell the story of the future of our products, use narrative to drive internal alignment, and contribute to the next generation of approachable, concise, and human experiences for our customers.

This lead role is a key member of the Product Delivery team and will partner closely with senior leaders and product teams to set best practice standards, scale consistency and comprehension as well as leading other strategic narrative priorities.

We’re looking for someone who can:

  • Communicate clearly and effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Communicate complex concepts and structures simply through writing.
  • Be economical and concise, but human in their approach to writing to our customers through the product.
  • Communicate the product’s point of view and value in an effective way.
  • Create user confidence through clear and concise interactions.
  • Understand the balance between The fast and the defensible, choosing solutions and processes appropriate for the risk profile of the projects.
  • Create, communicate, and scale content design best practices across the Product Delivery team.
  • Utilize a deep bench of experience to shortcut some work through earned intuition.
  • Partner with brand and technical writing teams to create and evolve the voice and tone guidelines for the product itself.

But most of all you’ll need a passion for developer tools and for improving the way every software team works.

On day one you should have:

  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Strong UX copywriting skills in addition to longer form narrative.
  • Agility and flexibility to work quickly as well as a strong POV of when to spend more time.
  • An understanding of how content design connects to business objectives.
  • A toolkit of processes or methodologies for evaluating and improving the quality of the writing.
  • Ability to simultaneously work in both high and low altitude streams of work.
  • Experience working with a variety of cross functional peers and stakeholders (e.g., product managers, data scientists, designers, engineers, policy, communications, marketing).
  • 8+ years of experience in Content Design and some experience leading larger strategic efforts. Experience as a manager is not necessary, but is a bonus. (This is a senior IC role to start)
  • Interest in understanding the software development life cycle, and developers as users.

Bonus: Previous experience working in the developer tooling space.
