The Team

Our data systems use an exciting array of technologies. Most of our data systems use Python and key parts of our systems are written in Clojure, Java, C, and Lua where the requirements demand it. We use a variety of database technologies, including PostgreSQL, HBase, Snowflake, MongoDB and Redis. Everything is connected by message buses powered by Apache Kafka and RabbitMQ.

Responsibilities

As our Chief Architect, you will help the company set its future technical direction, anticipating what problems we need to solve today to support development 1-2 years out. You’ll partner with Engineering, Product, and Data Science leadership to develop requirements and make build-vs-buy decisions on new technologies. This isn’t just a leadership role — you’ll be building prototypes and initial implementations that can prove out new technologies before they’re adopted by product development teams.

The Role

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work (and based) in the United States
    • As the Chief Architect, you will have the opportunity to work with Chartbeat’s leadership team while developing long-term strategies and solutions for our software products
    • Build prototypes and v1 versions of industry changing technologies, and partner with our engineering teams for implementation
    • Enhance our technology by performing architecture reviews to ensure that new systems are well-designed
    • Stay current on new and emerging technologies and raise the profile of Chartbeat technology by writing and speaking on our behalf
    • Oversee key development upgrades, document requirements, and performance needs for large Engineering initiatives

About You

  • 10+ years experience as an engineer, including at least 5 years working on server-side projects
  • Passionate about data engineering
  • Experience working with Kafka, Postgres, Data warehouses
  • Strong development experience in Python
  • Experience running code in a cloud environment, ideally on AWS
  • Proven experience tech leading large scale projects (migrations, new builds)
  • Desire to mentor engineering team members
  • Self motivated and can work independently with little supervision
  • Interested in owning complex projects end-to-end, and communicate broadly to internal stakeholders
  • Experience working on end-user products, ideally SaaS, is highly desirable

Compensation and Benefits

  • The pay range for this position is: $182,000- $246,000 per year. Please note that the foregoing compensation information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and is provided pursuant to the New York City Salary Transparency Law.
