Title: Associate Product Designer (Contractor)
Location: San Francisco, CA or Remote (Based in the U.S.)
NerdWallet aims to make personal finance refreshingly simple, helpful, and human. To do this, we’re seeking an experienced Product Designer to join our growing, passionate and highly collaborative User Experience team composed of Designers, Researchers, and Content Strategists.
We’re seeking an Associate Product Designer to join our design-lead design system team. To be successful in this role, you’re experienced at working collaboratively and iteratively to build out and evolve a unified design system. You’re comfortable working with your immediate cross-functional partners and with teams across the organization to support enhancements and facilitate design system feedback.
This role reports to the Manager, Product Design.

- Unify the NerdWallet product experience by documenting component usage guidelines and optimizing Figma libraries.

You are:
- A strong design & systems thinker: You move seamlessly between strategy and tactics.
- Passionate about Design Systems: You recognize that it takes more than components to build a robust design system, and are passionate about process, tooling, and documentation.
- Figma literate: You’re comfortable with the tool, including building design libraries with components across Web and Native Apps.
- A dedicated partner and enthusiastic collaborator: You work collaboratively with other designers to ensure a consistent, integrated brand perception and user-experience. You’re empathetic to Engineering’s technical constraints and Product’s business objectives, and are comfortable navigating design discussions with these cross-functional partners.
- Data-driven: You leverage qualitative and quantitative insights to inform and explain your decisions.
- Comfortable working iteratively: You know how to operate effectively within small, cross-functional scrum teams.
- Perpetually curious: You are passionate about new technologies, industry trends and relevant artifacts, and you incorporate this knowledge into the products you work on.
Your experience:
- 3+ years of Product Design experience (which means you have a good understanding of the craft and are comfortable contributing to, and executing, design solutions)
- Experience as a member of a cross-functional team
- You have a passion for Design Systems nerd out on the latest Figma upgrades, love finding ways to centralize common UI to empower scalable unified solutions
