Associate Director – Omni Design

We are seeking an ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OMNI DESIGN to join the Orvis Team! This is a remote position with the expectation the candidate will travel to the Vermont office 3-6 times per year.

The Associate Director Omni Design is an expert in design thinking and is principally tasked with unifying and elevating Omni-design across all channels, categories, and creative vehicles. This role leads, directs, and oversees our design methodology, type direction, illustration, and template architecture for all print & digital expressions.

Position Interfaces:

A key leader in Orvis’ Internal Agency, Flybox, this role reports directly to the Sr. DirectorCreative and will collaborate with Flybox partners: Director-Brand Concepts, Director-Brand Editorial, Director-Brand Imagery/Content, Design Managers & Designers; and cross-functional partners: VP-Brand Marketing, Senior Manager, Product Marketing, Marketing Managers, and General Merchandise Managers.

Responsibilities:

  • Major player in sculpting the look/feel of the brand from a design POV in print, digital & social
  • Collaborate with Flybox and Marketing Leadership to lead, develop & gain approval for periodic Strategic Design Framework refreshesdetailing unified graphic, typography & templating standards
  • Lead, inspire and develop the design staff with creative energy, collaborative spirit, and clear design-direction guardrails
  • Seasoned veteran in graphic design, type graphics, and brand-standards designboth hands-on and as a director of work to downstream designers
  • Partner with Design Managers & Marketing to ensure a unified look & feel for all creative executions across the house
  • Proven presenter of work with ability to dramatize how design templates & creative executions answer, deviate, or surpass a brief’s priorities, and why
  • Hindsight with analysis partners to improve engagement and assess future direction based on past performance
  • Great juggler, keeping many balls in the air with a multiplicity of stacked milestones & timelines

Competencies and Requirements:

  • Deep love for the outdoors and our responsibility to leave the campsite better than we found it
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or relevant technical degrees in design
  • 10+ years’ working in progressive roles of responsibility in design & managing of designers/teams
  • Enthusiastic storyteller through interplay of design, photography & copy
  • Ability to react constructively, collaborating with partners on design changes
  • Clear, honest, timely, good-natured communicatorin writing and in conversation
  • Brand-standards hawk who sweats the details
  • Power user of the Adobe design suite
