IM seeks to ensure that students, particularly students who have historically been underserved, and their teachers have access to aligned, grade-level, mathematics curriculum resources, and that teachers experience professional learning that leads to enduring mathematical learning for their students.

The Department: The 6-12 Curriculum Specialist is a part of the IM Product Strategy and Development department that drives the direction and success of the organizations product strategy, roadmap, and development, aligned to IMs vision and goals. The department develops and executes strategic plans and initiatives to meet clients and partners needs by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to define product requirements and develop innovative solutions that support and enhance the IM classroom experience. Critical to that experience are the departments talented group of math educators, designers, and technologists whose highest priority is setting up students and teachers for success with coherent, standards-aligned, equity focused, problem based PreK-12 curricula and professional learning products.

Position Summary

The 612 Curriculum Specialist will collaborate with the IM curriculum team to update, maintain, and create 612 curriculum materials. The person in this role will help update the 612 materials for the next release and create new features or products aligned with the core curriculum. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with the IM 612 Math curriculum and materials, as well as a vision for how our existing materials can be built upon to meet the needs of students and teachers. This role will report directly to the Director, 612 Curriculum as a member of the 612 Content Development team.

Travel Requirement: <10 percent

Travel Notice: IM aims to provide employees with a minimum of two weeks’ notice before requiring them to travel for the company. However, due to the specific demands of certain roles within IM, there may be instances where travel becomes necessary without the ability to provide the full two weeks’ notice.

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities

As a member of our curriculum team, responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Revise and improve IM 612 Math curricula and related materials.

  • Review feedback on curriculum materials and use it to inform revision.
  • Collaborate and plan for new curriculum components.
  • Write, review, and revise planned new curriculum components.
  • Analyze assessment data and develop plans for improving assessments.

Work mindfully and collaborativelywith purpose, flexibility, and transparency.

  • Understand project requirements, dependencies, and deliverables.
  • Meet agreed upon deadlines.
  • Collaborate with the team to problem solve and refine work processes.
  • Commit to seeking and listening to feedback to help each other grow, see our blindspots, and recognize and disrupt patterns of inequity.
  • Communicate with IM and external stakeholders about products and processes, for instance, by providing regular updates on specific projects at cross-team meetings.
  • Help train contractors and give feedback on their work.

Lead small-to-medium projects.

  • Plan project timelines and processes with the project manager.
  • Create training materials for contractors.
  • Solve problems that come up, either within the project team or by marshaling resources outside of the team.
  • Examples of small-to-medium projects (list is not meant to be exhaustive or predictive):
    • Research and articulate modifications necessary to align IM materials with state standards.
    • Lead a team of contractors creating a supplemental set of materials for the curriculum.

Collaborate with other departments from across the company.

  • Provide feedback on professional learning products.
  • Support efforts to screen or secure new projects, such as by giving input on proposals or grant applications.
  • Provide feedback on IMs and partners marketing efforts, ensuring accuracy and alignment to curriculum design principles.

Work with providers of IM Certified curricula.

  • Ensure integrity and alignment of core product, proposed new features, and product expansion with IM Certified criteria.
  • Evaluate potential supplementary products for alignment with IM Certified criteria.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in schools using IM 612 Math and fluency with the goals and design of the curriculum
  • Excellent 612 mathematics content knowledge, including knowledge of the Common Core State Standards and Progressions Documents
  • Demonstrated commitment to seeking and listening to feedback that encourages growth, surfaces blindspots, and recognizes and disrupts patterns of inequity
  • Responsive and communicative
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Experience designing or modifying problem-based curriculum materials
  • Experience meeting the needs of teachers and students in a variety of diverse school settings
  • Comfortable with:
    • Cloud-based systems, especially Google Workspace applications
    • Navigating a Learning Management System
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, relationship-building, collaborative environment
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction and supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to deliver clear, concise information tailored to specific and varied audiences
  • Must reside in and be legally authorized to work in the USA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Willing to learn:
    • Communication and collaboration tools (such as Slack and Zoom)
    • Project and data management tools (such as Asana and AirTable)
    • IM’s Content Management System
    • Basic HTML, LaTex/MathJax, and TikZ to perform typesetting and edit math diagrams
