What You’ll Do

  • Lead the technical approach on WordPress projects and keep development aligned with client needs
  • Partner with UX, design, and PM teams during discovery and planning
  • Architect, estimate, and build WordPress sites using modern development practices
  • Develop native Gutenberg blocks using React and build custom themes and plugins
  • Create templates and patterns optimized for full-site editing
  • Provide architectural guidance and mentor developers across the team
  • Write, review, and maintain code plus technical documentation
  • Lead peer code reviews and reinforce best practices
  • Meet directly with clients to clarify requirements and solve technical challenges
  • Help manage team workload and provide continuity across project phases

What You Need

  • 8+ years of professional WordPress experience
  • Deep expertise in WordPress architecture and custom development (themes, plugins, FSE, Gutenberg)
  • Strong skills with ACF, CPTs, taxonomies, and REST API integrations
  • Strong understanding of full-site editing, templates, and block patterns
  • JavaScript and React proficiency (Next.js is a plus), plus solid PHP and SQL experience
  • Familiarity with CLI, GitHub workflows, Docker, and multi-environment deployments
  • Strong grasp of modern web standards and technologies
  • Strong writing and documentation skills for specs and process docs
  • Experience mentoring developers and working with distributed teams
  • Ability to manage competing priorities while staying on scope and timeline
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in CS or equivalent professional experience
