GovCIO is hiring a UX/UI Subject Matter Expert to lead design efforts for federal digital platforms. In this fully remote role, you’ll bring human-centered design expertise to modernize systems, ensure accessibility, and deliver seamless user experiences across high-visibility projects.

What You’ll Do
- Lead UX strategy, research, and design for complex federal systems
- Conduct user research, interviews, surveys, and usability testing
- Develop wireframes, prototypes, and user flows with Figma, Adobe XD, Axure, or Sketch
- Ensure accessibility compliance with Section 508 and WCAG standards
- Implement U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) components and guidelines
- Collaborate with developers, product managers, and stakeholders to align design with technical and mission goals
- Provide expert guidance on UX best practices and human-centered design methodologies
What You Need
- Bachelor’s in HCI, Design, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5–8 years in IT, with at least 4 years converting business processes into usable diagrams and personas
- Hands-on experience with Jira, Confluence, and ServiceNow
- Proficiency in design tools (Figma, Adobe XD, Axure, Sketch, Balsamiq)
- Strong knowledge of USWDS, HTML/CSS, and accessibility standards
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience with legacy system modernization
- Background in cognitive psychology or behavioral science
- Certifications such as CUA or HFI
