GovCIO is hiring a UX/UI Subject Matter Expert to lead design efforts for federal digital platforms. In this fully remote role, you’ll bring human-centered design expertise to modernize systems, ensure accessibility, and deliver seamless user experiences across high-visibility projects.

  • DHS Public Trust clearance required

What You’ll Do

  • Lead UX strategy, research, and design for complex federal systems
  • Conduct user research, interviews, surveys, and usability testing
  • Develop wireframes, prototypes, and user flows with Figma, Adobe XD, Axure, or Sketch
  • Ensure accessibility compliance with Section 508 and WCAG standards
  • Implement U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) components and guidelines
  • Collaborate with developers, product managers, and stakeholders to align design with technical and mission goals
  • Provide expert guidance on UX best practices and human-centered design methodologies

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s in HCI, Design, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5–8 years in IT, with at least 4 years converting business processes into usable diagrams and personas
  • Hands-on experience with Jira, Confluence, and ServiceNow
  • Proficiency in design tools (Figma, Adobe XD, Axure, Sketch, Balsamiq)
  • Strong knowledge of USWDS, HTML/CSS, and accessibility standards
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with legacy system modernization
  • Background in cognitive psychology or behavioral science
  • Certifications such as CUA or HFI
