What You’ll Do

  • Own and evolve Steno’s analytics data model to support batch and real-time analytics needs
  • Design and build dbt data models, including complex macros, packages, and scalable patterns
  • Implement dbt tests and quality controls to ensure trusted, consistent data
  • Build custom ingestion pipelines for nonstandard sources using external APIs
  • Partner with Data Analysts and business stakeholders to translate needs into usable data products
  • Enable stakeholders to use your models effectively through guidance, documentation, and support
  • Optimize Snowflake performance and query cost efficiency
  • Establish and document analytics engineering standards and best practices across the org
  • Mentor other Analytics Engineers and Data Analysts, leveling up the whole team
  • Continuously improve the data stack by tracking modern data trends and applying what matters

What You Need

  • Advanced experience with dbt Core, git, Snowflake, and modern data stack tooling (including CI/CD)
  • 5+ years writing SQL in an analytical environment
  • 4–7 years of analytics engineering or data engineering experience
  • Strong foundation in dimensional modeling and warehouse design patterns
  • Proven track record delivering high-quality, well-engineered data solutions
  • Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Pragmatic mindset: you know when to engineer deeply and when to keep it simple
  • Bonus: experience in an early-stage startup environment
