What You’ll Do
- Operate and support middleware runtimes with a focus on Tomcat and IBM platforms (WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere/HCL Portal)
- Handle installs, patching, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning across Linux and Windows environments
- Partner with the F5 network/load balancing team to manage traffic flows (VIPs, pools, health checks, iRules) and ensure proper routing
- Diagnose issues across app, network, and middleware layers, including:
- SSL/TLS handshake issues
- Header manipulation
- Session stickiness
- Reverse proxy behavior
- Redirects and multi-tier traffic flows
- Collaborate with network and security teams on changes that impact availability (F5, firewall rules, routing) using strong change management practices
- Support modernization initiatives, including migrations away from Tomcat/WebSphere/Portal as platforms are decommissioned
- Partner with container and private cloud teams on forward-looking architecture and platform improvements
What You Need
- Hands-on experience supporting enterprise web application platforms, including:
- Apache
- Tomcat
- One or more IBM platforms (WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere/HCL Portal)
- Agile mindset with experience using tools like JIRA and Confluence (or similar)
- Proven leadership, bias for action, and a customer-first approach
- Strong collaboration skills and comfort working across teams (platform, network, security, dev enablement)
- Ability to work remotely with high-speed internet
- Must be authorized to work without current or future sponsorship
- Preferred:
- 5+ years of middleware and enterprise platform support experience
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science / Information Systems (or equivalent experience)
- Ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
