Help scale the ML data infrastructure behind AI-powered pathology that’s aiming to improve patient outcomes, especially in diseases like cancer. If you’re a backend Python builder who knows databases, pipelines, and cost-aware data strategy, this contract is a solid swing.
About PathAI
PathAI is building AI-powered pathology products to improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment efficacy. Their work sits at the intersection of healthcare and machine learning, with a team focused on solving hard technical problems that have real-world impact. You’ll be supporting the data backbone that ML engineers rely on.
Schedule
Contract role (minimum 6 months)
Remote (U.S.)
What You’ll Do
⦁ Analyze and optimize storage strategies for ML experiment data and metadata
⦁ Design retention and expiration workflows for large-scale datasets to control cost and sprawl
⦁ Modernize and refactor ETL/ELT pipelines for scalability and maintainability
⦁ Create and populate schemas for validated and curated datasets
⦁ Build or enhance database-backed tools supporting ML R&D and production analytics
⦁ Collaborate closely with MLOps, ML engineering, SRE, and platform teams
⦁ Provide documentation and knowledge transfer to long-term maintainers
What You Need
⦁ Strong Python skills for server-side development, automation, and data processing
⦁ Deep relational database experience (Postgres, Amazon RDS, Aurora), including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning
⦁ ELT pipeline experience (dbt preferred) and cloud data warehousing (Snowflake preferred)
⦁ Familiarity with big data tools (Spark, Hive)
⦁ Experience with Apache Airflow for orchestration and automation
⦁ Knowledge of S3-based storage and large-scale data management strategies
⦁ Ability to write clear technical documentation and collaborate across teams
⦁ Experience with partitioning, performance tuning, and cloud cost optimization
Benefits
⦁ Contract role (benefits not listed in the posting)
⦁ High-impact work supporting ML and analytics workflows in healthcare AI
⦁ Remote flexibility with a defined minimum contract term
If you’ve got the backend chops and you like building the plumbing that makes ML teams faster and more reliable, apply. This is the kind of contract that can turn into long-term trust.
