Senior Software Engineer – Remote

Build fintech that actually helps people breathe again. This role is for a senior backend engineer who can own big projects end to end in a modern, event-driven architecture, while mentoring others and keeping systems reliable at scale.

About Splash Financial
Splash Financial is a remote-first fintech founded in 2013 to help people become “more powerful than their debt.” They started with student loan refinancing and expanded into other debt products (like credit card refinancing), refinancing $6B+ through partner banks and credit unions. They’ve raised $135M+ and still operate with a startup pace and values-forward culture.

Schedule

  • Remote-first
  • Must be based in the US or Canada
  • On-call rotation required (for system reliability)

What You’ll Do

  • Own project outcomes end to end: concept, architecture, build, test, deploy
  • Build and scale APIs that power core products
  • Improve architecture, performance, and team efficiency proactively
  • Write clean, well-tested code and contribute to CI/CD pipelines
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and design to ship impactful solutions
  • Mentor teammates and raise the technical bar
  • Participate in on-call and help ensure system reliability
  • Stay active in a remote culture built on clear communication and accountability

What You Need

  • 7+ years backend engineering experience
  • Strong proficiency in Clojure, Java, or Kotlin (functional language mindset preferred)
  • Expertise with large-scale distributed systems
  • Experience designing service-oriented, event-driven systems and scalable APIs
  • Hands-on AWS experience, plus Kubernetes, serverless architectures, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong PostgreSQL (or similar relational DB) experience
  • Comfortable making data-driven decisions in ambiguity
  • Strong feedback skills with candor and empathy
  • Ownership mindset, high standards, team-first approach
  • Genuine alignment with Splash’s mission and values

Benefits

  • Fully remote work freedom
  • Competitive salary + possible equity
  • Flexible PTO + 9 company holidays
  • Comprehensive insurance benefits
  • Paid parental leave (both caregivers)
  • Company-provided equipment
  • 401(k)
  • Quarterly meet-ups (in-person + virtual)
  • Company swag

Pay

  • $130,000–$190,000 salary range (based on location, experience, skill)
  • May be eligible for equity

Real talk: they’re explicitly asking “Why are you interested in Splash? (Please do not use AI for this question).” That doesn’t mean you can’t prep. It means you can’t paste a generic AI paragraph. If you want, drop 5 bullet points about your actual story (why fintech, why debt mission, why their stack, what you’ve shipped), and I’ll help you shape it into something that still sounds 100% like you.

Senior Infrastructure Engineer – Remote

This is a real senior DevOps / cloud infrastructure seat. Heavy AWS, IaC, CI/CD, observability, security, and you’re expected to lead and mentor, not just “keep the lights on.”

About Cardinal Financial
Nationwide mortgage lender with proprietary LOS tech (Octane). Regulated environment, so security and uptime are not optional.

Schedule

  • Remote
  • CI/CD + production releases, including occasional off-hours deployments
  • Cross-team work with Architecture, Dev, and business stakeholders

What You’ll Do

  • Architect AWS infrastructure that’s scalable, secure, cost-aware
  • Build and maintain CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Jenkins) across environments
  • Own releases to production and QC, sometimes off-hours
  • Monitoring/logging/alerting with AWS tools (CloudWatch, X-Ray, CloudTrail, Systems Manager)
  • Lead infra projects: capacity planning, DR, security compliance
  • Mentor junior engineers and raise DevOps practice maturity
  • Troubleshoot across the stack (network to app performance)
  • Tighten IAM, security groups, segmentation, compliance for financial services
  • Cost optimization: right-sizing, RIs, architectural improvements
  • Document everything: runbooks, operational procedures

What You Need
Required

  • 8+ years infra/DevOps/cloud, 3+ on AWS
  • Terraform and/or CDK (IaC)
  • CI/CD ownership (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, similar)
  • Containers: Docker + Kubernetes/EKS
  • Scripting (Python/Bash) and they also call out Java
  • Networking + systems + security fundamentals
  • Remote collaboration chops
  • Comfortable using AI tools for productivity

Preferred

  • AWS certs (SA, DevOps)
  • Regulated industry experience
  • Deep AWS-native observability (CloudWatch/X-Ray/SSM/AWS Config)
  • RDS/DynamoDB/Aurora
  • Serverless (Lambda/API Gateway/Step Functions)
  • Security tooling (GuardDuty/Security Hub/Inspector)
  • Cost tools (Cost Explorer/Trusted Advisor/Compute Optimizer)

Pay range

  • $140,000–$170,000 base

My straight take

  • If your background is true infra/DevOps/SRE with AWS + Terraform + pipelines + incident response, this is a solid fit and the pay band is legit.
  • If your experience is more “app developer who has deployed some stuff,” you’ll get exposed fast. This role assumes you can design the platform, not just operate it.
  • The “off-hours deployments” line means they’re still doing some controlled releases that may not be fully hands-off yet. Not a red flag, but it’s a signal.

Action move
If you’re applying, I’ll tailor a tight resume summary + bullet rewrites to match their keywords (AWS, Terraform/CDK, GitHub Actions/Jenkins, EKS, IAM, DR, cost optimization, runbooks). Paste your current resume bullets for your last 2 roles and I’ll refactor them into “Cardinal language” without fluff.
